Because Complementarianism is About Power

I particularly like the way the writer worded this point concerning complementarianism and patriarchy near the end of the article:

"Calling patriarchy complementarianism doesn’t make it Christian. It just makes it patriarchy with a new name. Gerda Lerner wrote that patriarchy is simply a system in which “men hold power in all the important institutions of society and women are deprived of access to such power.” Sort of like the Southern Baptist Convention? I think Beth Moore’s tweet is rather insightful. “Do not be deceived. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck”…it is probably a duck. Complementarianism is just patriarchy, and patriarchy is about power.

Neither is about Jesus." (Emphasis mine)

Power over other people.

Gotta be more specific, because men and women in certain instances have authority in situations. Is it power in terms of being favored, or power as in ability to do things that others can't do?Is it the idea of someone being over someone thats would be threatening, or is it the fear of abuse from someone who would have the upper hand.

Complementarianism is the result of the fall... and its screwy to think that these old guys are advocating a position of backsliding, in contrast with striving to live out our lives per God's original game plan. Then again, those textual analysis graphics are pretty telling.

It’s simpler than that. Personal power over your own life and what happens to you. In patriarchy, men have more power in their own lives than women, and more power over others as well. Power is neutral, one can use it to do good and to do harm.

“We could not become like God, so God became like us. God showed us how to heal instead of kill, how to mend instead of destroy, how to love instead of hate, how to live instead of long for more. When we nailed God to a tree, God forgave. And when we buried God in the ground, God got up.”
