Elise looked at her self in the mirror. Smiling, she turned around and around, giggling. She never had been able to see herself in the mirror like she did now. Her mind wandered back to when she was seriously in trouble...
Elise stood at the mirror. She sucked her stomach in, and tensed her muscles. No matte how hard she tried to look skiny, she was stil fat. At least she thought so. She slung her back pack over her shoulder. Frowning still, she ran downstairs, as she'd heard her mom calling. "Hmm...?" She asked. Her mom sighed. "Elise, breakfast was half an hour ago. What have you been doing up there?"
Elise shrugged. Her mom frowned. "You still haven't eaten, and you'll be late to school..." Elise shrugged again. "No problem Mom." She replied. "I just won't eat. I'll eat a big lunch, k?''
Her mom frowned deeper still. "Just today. If it happens again, I'm going to start waking you up earlier."
On the way to school, Elise thought about what she told her mom. She felt guilty for lying to her mom. After all, God had said that lying was sin, didn't he? And her mom was just worried about her. But Elise kept thinking how fat she thought she looked. She couldn't get over it. 'That's what I'll do...' She thought. 'I'll just cut junk food, excersize, and not eat alot...'
The next day, Elise got up at 5 am. She skipped breakfast, and ran for 2 hours. Then she arrived home, took a shower, and got ready for school. "Elise!" her mom hollered from the bottom of the stairs. "Breakfast!" Elise stared in the mirror, spinnig slowly. "I already ate!" She yelled distractedly. 'God forgive me for this lie.. It's just so i can be in better shape...' She prayed.
As the days progressed, Elise began eating less and less, getting up earlier to exersize, and not getting enough sleep. Although she couldn't see it, she was losing wait, and developing bags under her eyes. Her parents worried. "Elise, your aweful skinny." Her dad said one night. "You've lost too much wait. If this keeps up I' taking you to a doctor." Elise shrugged. They were just being parents, she thought to her self.
But then her friends started in. That's when she realized something was really wrong. And it seemed that her diet was controling her life. One day she broke down and started crying in front of her parents, while watching tv. "Mommy, Daddy..." She wailed. "Help me!"
Her parents took her to a counsler, and slowly she got better. She gained all the wait back. Even though she knew she was still over wait, she was eventually able to look in the mirror, without cringing.
Months later, Elise was spinning in front of her mirror, giggling. She heard a knock on the door, and her mom came in. Smiling at Elise she said, "Having fun?" Elise stopped twirling. "Oh Mommy, I feel so good! I can look in the mirror without seeing a hideuos person." Her mom smiled. "You know Elise, God made you just the way you are. You are exactly the way he made you. He created you specially for something. And I have no doubt, that how you are now, will be involved in that." Elise smiled and nodded.
As she closed her eyes that night, Elise smiled again. "Thank you God, for making me just the way I am." She whispered. "I know that I'm beautiful in you eyes..."
Let this story be a reminder to you: Remember that God made you just the way you are, and that it doesn't matter weather you weigh 90 pounds or 900, but that in God's eyes you are perfect, the way you are, because that is how he made you. Tonight as you lay your head on you pillow, pray that God will show others that they look just fine the way they are too...
