Beatles fans, post here!

I'm a huge fan of The Beatles. In this thread, please list your favorite Beatles in order, as well as your 5 favorite Beatles songs. Here's my list:
1) Paul
2) George
3) John (I feel terrible putting him third, but I just like Paul and George a little more)
4) Ringo

Songs: (no particular order)
1) In My Life
2) If I Needed Someone
3) My Sweet Lord (I really like it, but I feel ashamed to listen to it since they say 'Hare Krishna' (sp?) in it)

5) While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Also, I recommend any and all Beatles concert DVD's. Here are my favorites:
-Paul is Live (early 1990's)
-Paul McCartney - Back in the US (2002-2003)
-Concert for George (2003-2004. Features many artists, such as McCartney and Eric Clapton, paying tribute to George in a stellar concert).

The Beatles are simply the greatest band that ever was. They did so much for music, culture and society that their impact is unestimatible. The advances in recording that they brought about, and the fact that they put out the first music considered art in a field that was never considered that before. To those under 25, you will not feel their impact as much, but all the bands that you listen to owe a debt of gratitude to them that they can never repay.....off my soapbox now......

I'm 50, so I was 10 years old when they first came to the U.S. and I immediately fell in love with Paul. Everyone had their "favorite" Beatle, and it was war! I didn't have money to buy their albums until I got to junior high, but then I bought all of them, and still have the vinyl. I also have all the CDs now, inluding the Anthology series, and the "Live at the BBC" series, which is excellent!

It's incredible what they did in just 7 years, isn't it?

Yeah, I inherited my love for The Beatles from my 49-year-old dad. He has all of the CD's, and we are in the process of getting all of the concert DVD's (we already have a bunch). I never liked John's attitude about things either (I say that like I was around back then), and I didn't like his tendency to look on the dark side of things in his lyrics, but he was a great singer, in my opinion. I absolutely love every one of those songs that you've listed, except for Blackbird. Not that it's a bad song, I just never really liked it a lot for some reason. But really, you should get some of the recent concert CD's or DVD's, as they have some great versions of songs that you love. I'll go to Amazon and shwo you what I'm talking about.

Fav Beatles in order:

1) Paul (more for his stuff with Wings/solo)
2) John (as someone else said, the musician not the
person unfortunately)
3) George/Ringo - Ringo/George
(let's face it, the Beatles were Paul/John or John/Paul
period)

AND, anyone really into the Beatle's would have to give honourable mention to George Martin, their long-time producer. What he did with their "sound" was absolutely mind blowing (and WAY beyond it's time)

I met John, in 1980, the summer. He died on my birthday, Dec. 8th.

I never met George or saw him, more is the pity.



As to John, few know that he was a Born Again Christian, who watched the 700 Club a TON before he died. When I met him, in Central Park, he talked to my brother and I about his faith for a long time. How it came about shortly after his son Sean had been born.

AS to that often MIS QUOTED line about the Beatles being larger the Christ, that many think he said, it was quoted out of context. He was referring to how it was a SHAME that the Beatles were seen as being larger then Christ. That Christ should be higher then them.



I know that during the '70s he said and did some odd stuff. But when I met him he was sincere to me. He really was all excited about God (Yoko was strangely silent during that part...keep sitting on the bench smoking these really stinky cigarettes).



I have often been curious about George and his faith. He loved God, that is for sure. But did he know Christ? That is what gets me. A pastor friend of mine, hopes he did.

So do I. It would be a shame that the person that wrote MY SWEET LORD would not be in His presence.

ps139 - Nice picks for the songs. I love every one of those songs to death.

Athanasian Creed - I think that George did a lot more for the band than Ringo. However, you are right in that it was always John and Paul. Yes, George Martin does deserve credit. The Elizabethan keyboard solo in 'In My Life' is played by George Martin. It was done at half-speed and then sped up, but it's still incredible. I, too, liked their psychadelic stuff. Revolver especially. I have never had alcohol or smoked a cigarette or anything, I just like the way it sounds.

Rev.T - Great post. You're so lucky that you got to meet John. My parents have seen McCartney in concert several times but, unfortunately, I haven't. Well, I kind of have since I have so many of his concert DVD's and a pretty nice home theater setup, but I know that it's no where near the same thing. Again, great post.

Thanks for your post. I didn't know that John had ever had anything to do with Christianity. Your post gives me hope that he did find Christ. And I completely agree with you about that "bigger than Jesus" comment. I was a teenager at the time, and even I could see that people were (perhaps intentionally?) misunderstanding what he said, and what he meant. It was really stupid!

But then, I have the same problem with those who criticize Bono and his music as not being Christian. They just aren't paying close enough attention.

Rubber Soul is great...it influenced another brilliant record, Pet Sounds. Too bad Brian had so many problems staying on top of things...Drugs are like a tornado. It completely ruins some and leaves others intact.
