Beads

Anyone work with beads? I like stuff that's beaded, whether it be jewelry, clothing, drapes, whatever.

I used to be really into it, but I've gotten out of the habit (since the jewelry I made often came apart, but I'm gonna start experimenting with wire now).

I used to use pony beads and string/ribbon, but now I mess around a lot with seed beads and wire, but fishing line also works, provided you put clear nail polish on the joints.

I should post a picture of the show stuff I've done with beads - I used the glass 'bugle beads' on a vest, and made accent corners for my saddlepad that matched. It was beautiferous!

oooohhh beads are so much fun. I could go nuts in a bead shop. It's almost too overwhelming to just walk in there and pick something--you don't know where to begin and where to end.

I love walking into a bead store...it's sooo neat to see some really cool stuff, and I'd end up walking out my with my head buzzing with ideas! LOL

One good thing is that I have a good friend who's very good at beadwork. She's done some wiring, peyote stitch, brick stitch, beadwork on counted x-stitch, etc with beads. She makes some gorgeous necklaces! When I have the time, I'll have to go over and have her teach me some basics.

Another way to work with beads is to take classes from the bead store. Or find a good friend who knows how to work with beads, & is willing to teach you.

I love beads !!

I've worked with them for about 9 years now.
Way back then..my dear best friend and I went to a class to make single strand necklaces..next we were going to another and another, making this and that. I became quickly hooked and well that the short long story.

Now I give pause to my entry into a bead stores as I spend $$$!
Often I've discovered the 'perfect' beads that had long been forgotten for a project. It's a fun surprise to use/need a tube of beads that had been collecting dust for YEARS.

About 2 months ago I spilled 3 trays of seed beads all over the carpet..what a mess. It drove me crazy trying to clean and sort them out. Somehow I managed to save most. I eventually used the vacuum...
and the beads got more organized.

My favorite thing to make are the necklace beadbags. All female family members have gotten one as a gift throughout the years.

Yes..I think beads are great !! ..and I'm glad to see a few others that are a bit on the bead wacky side sometimes.

Beadwork can be a very fussy wussy thing..It might as well be with a bead or two.

I like beads. Does that make me a pansy? :o I like Rosaries, especially. They use some really pretty beads and stones for those sometimes. I don't really work with beads, but I think the stuff you can do with them is beautiful.

I've made rosaries. I found myself noticing broken ones at antique stores and rummage sales. It bothered me to see them that way..often in a tangled mess with several.

I removed the crosses and medals...used them with new beads and gave them away. I've also used stone beads.. Haven't made these for quite a while.

I have got so many beads. I love them. There is a shop in town called spellbound bead company and i get my beads from there.

I found a web site that had the pattern to make ornaments out of beads, I was so impressed because it was rather easy to consturct. Does anyone else of patterns for making ornaments. Here is a picture of the ornament. Does anyone have patterns for other ornaments.

One trick I learned about beading is using waxed dental floss -water proof & hard as all get out to break! I like beading too! I'm making a beaded lampshade-in between 5 or 6 other projects! It's going to take forever but I'm using up old stock I have around.

I like rosaries too, I think that they are beautiful. I had a Catholic friend explain what they beads meant and often wonder if there has ever been anything like that used as a Protestant prayer aid. Anyone know?

Catholic rosaries are the 'original' Christian prayer beads, but Anglicans also have a version: http://www.kingofpeace.org/prayerbeads.htm
