  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All religions of any value teach about detachment from self.

St John of the Cross wrote about it and described it as detachment from the appetites.

Echart Tolle, describes the false self which the ego identifies with.
It's a false image that we like to project toward others for selfish reasons.
I'll be liked more, all be more popular if I'm wealthier or lose weight and
become more buff, etc. In other words, if I act according to the way that
society values most, I'll be better in the eyes of the world.

God doesn't see us this way and knows our true selves. Our task with His
help is to become the person God had in mind when he created us, that is
the true person we are and not the false image we try to project.

Self-knowledge is part of learning to become a good Christian and it's part
of spiritual development.

Jesus died to redeem our intended personality (before sin),...
By that, I mean things like which vocation best suits us, etc. Those expressions are not particularly vain, though we still might bring our vanities with us into them.

It’s a way of looking away from God, and making self more important.

If we don’t really see Christ, we follow each other! Because we as human beings need to feel accepted and loved, which is a natural human desire, so, without understand Christ is our all and all, so we follow what seems acceptable and we lean on others to fill that void!
Since so many Christians and churchgoers are fake, being yourself is an important message. However, it must be explained what that means in reality.
Colossians 3:9 & 19
"Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices, 1and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.…

Those who are born again really are new creations. That's how we should be living, not in bondage to the old way of life. Having a pretend Christianity that is put on only for church is hypocrisy.

One of Jesus parables speaks to this in Matthew 22:11-13 KJV. The wedding garment is the new self. We can also say the wedding garment is the Holy Spirit.

It’s true that without being properly taught in church, and without seeking for ourselves, many people will not experience the power of the gospel unto salvation and won’t experience walking in the new self.

There are a few different ways to see this principle from God's word. Another way is "put on Christ". They all involve putting off the old nature we inherit from Adam and putting on the new man that we are in Christ. The cross of Christ separates us from the old man and the resurrection of Christ causes us to be new creations. Life for the Christian always comes out of death first.

You bring joy to my heart. It’s a wonderful thing to see the preaching of the gospel. Romans 10:15 KJV
