"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it," Gen 1:28.
Genesis is very condensed. God creates the whole universe in 32 verses. Here we have five words in the ancient Hebrew: "fruitful", "multiply", "replenish", "earth", "subdue". First God "blessed" them and then God "said" onto them. There is no suggestion of an Angry God, in fact we are told that: "it was VERY Good". Exceedingly abundantly good. Of course we know later on the story of the serpent. But for now everything was good, they were to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth and subdue it. Replenish is a interesting word for the translators to use because it more then suggests that there was something here before. To subdue the earth becomes qualified when the rest of the verse says: " and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth." Then we are told: "I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." So God has given us food to eat. Not animals as they tell me I am to eat plants. Whole grain, whole food plants. Although later on Moses does allow a little bit of meat and they say some fish is good.
Later on in Deu 31 6 we are told: "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." So we know that God is with us and that He will not abandon us or forsake us. Only it is our job to make sure we do not abandon or forsake God. He walks with us as we subdue the earth and we are to walk with Him.
Genesis is very, very condensed. Hundreds of thousands of books talk about what we read here in these 32 verses. Still we are told God blessed than and said to be fruitful, multiply replenish the earth, subdue it. This is what we are told to do. He gives us food to eat and later on we are told that He will be with us and He will not leave us or forsake us.
