Namaste all,

interesting discussion.

i've seen the usage of B.C.E. in more academic fields, the common literature seems to still use B.C.

of course, myself and a whole great group of beings are using a slightly different one... we use B.E. to represent "Buddhist Era" ;)

in in our calendar, the year is 2551.

metta,

~v

The death of the Buddha most likely. His birth maybe?
His death. Or rather the Paranibbana of Buddha- the death of one who has reached total enlightenment is different.

Lets face it, the entire world bases its dating system to BC. We're in the year 2006, the whole world bases itself on that system, yes the chinese have their new years, as do some religions and other calenders, but the world works on BC, on the system that came from dating everything from christ's birth. What BC stands for doesn't really matter, but to start switching to BCE is just stupid. Yes, BCE is used in some places, but the world wouldn't necessarily function any better if everything was dated off BCE, the change would just confuse timelines and people in general. I'm not Christian, but I see nothing wrong with using BC. BCE just seems to be an unnecessary confusion to me.
