Hey, was anybody else surprised by the unusually positive ending of the most recent episode of BG? I mean, the President is still dying of cancer, both Battlestars are probably seriously damaged, Apollo has psychological issues, etc.

But they destroyed the Resurrection ship, Commander Adama didn't have to have Admiral Cain assassinated. He even gets to kiss the President (not something our Secretary of Defense is likely to do to our Prez).

Does this seem unusually positive to anybody else?

I really hope he resists the temptation to tie everything up at some point. I like the ambiguity.

It kind of bummed me out the way he tied up Billy and his relationship with Dualla but at least it was satisfying to see him show some of the steel and strength that's always been there before it happened. He deserved better.

I just listened to Ron Moore's commentary. Apparently, the actor was going to be leaving the show, so they needed to end the character. Given the nature of the fleet and the character, it's not like he could just get a new job or something. So, dead it is.

I'm sad, too, because the character was really growing as the show progressed.

Ah, well that makes sense. I'm just glad he got to go out the way he did, not being a wimpy crybaby about the relationship deadending then he got to make such a sacrifice and leave D with something to remember. I guess there are worse ways to go.

I know. Billy was actually going somewhere. At the beginning of the series, I didn't really care for him. But he was attaining a third dimension.

While I haven't seen Sacrifice yet, I guess I know what happens to Billy in it .

Problem for me watching BSG is that I don't get SciFi up here in Canada, and Space (the channel that carries it) is only up to Resistance (the 4th or 5th episode of the second season). So I have to try to find copies off the net or something unless I want to wait an extra 12-14 weeks to see the show. By that time I'll be home and be able to buy the DVD of the season (which I will be once I'm back from school, gotta get my Dad watching the show!)

I don't know if it would seem unusually positive, considering the tragedies and negatives happening around the storyline - Apollo semi-suicidal, Tyrol and Helo in the brig for defending the woman they love, inter-Colonial fighting, Baltar seeming to have finally given in to his dark side, etc... Leaving it without some sort of happy note would have left the viewers feeling a bit crushed down.

Oh, what did I do? As a Battlestar fan I happily jumped into the thread and started reading... only to find to my horror that y'all Americans are ahead of us in the series. Two battlestars? Must wipe memory...

Ah! Sorry to hear it. You know, I don't have Cable TV, either. If I did, I'd be watching too much TV, rather than working on my thesis.

But for BSG, it might be worth it to download it with bittorrent (or something).

iTunes actually offers each episode in the Apple Store for $2.99 each. But I'm just going to buy the whole DVD packs when I get home... get all the extra features and interviews, etc...

I wonder if there is any significance to the humans being secular polytheists and the Cylons being monotheists? I wonder how that will factor into things down the road.

I will not miss Billy. He was the Wesley Crusher of BSG I really wish the story would get back on track though. Anyone remember that we were looking for earth last season? Isn't that what we're still doing? Haven't heard earth mentioned since the end of last season.

It would be possible to have a very interesting discussion of religion based on those premises. That being said, however, I hope they don't try to do it. Discussions of religion on TV tend to be, well, something banned by the CF censor filter.

I do love some of the Cyclon responses when they are discussing religion - Leoben's interogation: "I know that God loved you more than all other living creatures and you repaid His divine love with sin, with hate, corruption, evil..."

And a little question (I was just rewatching that Leoben scene) - why is it that some human Cylons haven't displayed really that superhuman strength that Leoben shows? (Flesh and Bone, season 1, episode 8) Leoben rips apart chain, throws a heavy steel table out of his way and drives Starbuck across the room. And yet he got absolutely demolished by Adama in the miniseries. Boomer hasn't shown any sort of extra power/strengths, and Number Six didn't really show anything too special in her fight with Starbuck or when she kills the Marine in "Pegasus".

Any ideas? My roomy mentioned that maybe Leoben was too weak from that "ion storm" or whatever in the nebula to fully fight off Adama (and Adama seems to be a pretty strong guy - watch him sparring with Lee in a later episode).

I do think it's well written.

Incidentally, I liked Wes. Granted, I like Wheaton even more now.

I love this show, it's hard to find well-written sci-fi.

I think it has a lot of religious parallels as well... some more obvious than others. Pretty gripping and epic, regardless.

Gotta disagree with you. Six beat the snot out of Starbuck in the museum. Boomer was definitely out-running Helo on Caprica when they were going through the forest. The weakest was Leoben at the cache, but then he had been exposed to the radiation for a while. Still, he was really able to put the smack on Adama.

I wouldn't expect the "human" cylons to be seriously superhuman since they seem to be just augmented "flesh and bone" and aren't really built for combat. I figure a centurion would eat a human alive toe to toe, however.
