  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For anyone who is considering getting 2142 and currently plays BF2. Here are some reasons to move to the new game to help you decide.

*The map layouts are countless times better designed. Allowing for any number of defense and offensive positions. Each map, even the larger ones have layouts that allow for infantry to stand a chance against enemy armor.

*The kits and vehicles are much more balanced as opposed to BF2, where vehicles were the dominate force on a battlefield. Infantry has plenty of NEW ways to take out vehicles. And in 2142, you don’t need to be anti-tank or spec ops in order to survive against them.

*More unlocks, and more than just weapon unlocks. Tons of gadgets that alter the course of the battle and change the way we do things. In BF2 you had plenty of ways to attack or defend, but in 2142, with the help of new gadgets the options are even larger. A good example:

Last night I was playing in a squad with some other guys, we were trying to get through a small group of buildings to take an outpost. The enemy support put down a anti-personal turret which was laying waste to our other squads. They also had sniper and assault support. We were pinned down. One of our guys was a scout and turned on his cloaking device. One of us tossed out an EMP grenade witch altered their vision temporarily. He managed to get to the side of them (no way without the cloak) and provide a sneak attack which allowed for a diversion that let us go in for the kill. One of our engineers put down an EMP mine and a enemy vehicle detection unit. We saw the enemy vehicle coming easily and once it hit the mine we went in for the kill and took the outpost.

That’s a common occurrence…for some reason team play is much bigger in 2142 than it was in BF2 (unless you went in a clan)

*Fewer bugs and faster load times. I’ve crashed around 90% less than I do on BF2. I have yet to encounter any noticeable bugs. The load times are over half as fast as in BF2. If you take a minute to load a BF2 map, it will take you around 15 seconds to load a 2142 map, etc…

Over-all the game is better designed in layout, better weapons and vehicles and a MASSIVE larger amount of diverse tactics, more than you will ever get in BF2.

So…if you are considering buying the game…DO IT. It’s more than worth it.

Baur ftw :D

Voss ftl :(

I've found the Voss to be extremely deadly. I think it's just an issue of playing style. If you're doing lots of close-quarters fast-movement combat, then the Voss is the way to go to. The large clip and decent accuracy on auto and burst fire make it very capable in this role. If you want to be a sniper who can heal, then the Baur is the better choice.

I suppose that's what would seem obvious by the weapon's basic functions, however, there are basic statistics that support the Baur.

First of all, the Baur does 36 damage per shot (4 shot kill) and the Voss does 25 damage per shot (6 shot kill), while the Baur fires at 600 RPM and the Voss fires at 900 RPM. This means that by the time the Baur fires 4 shots, the Voss will have fired 6.5, but the game calculates damage by each whole bullet that strikes an opponent, and not by fractions. This means that the Baur fires 4 shots by the time the Voss has fires 6. In these 4 shots, the Baur will have done 101 points of damage while the Voss will have done 105 (this is taking into account the 70% damage reduction of heavy armor). What does this mean? The Baur and the Voss score kills exactly as fast as each other. What does this further mean? The Baur functions equally with the Voss in close quarters combat, and better than the Voss at other range. I'll explain why.

First off, in close quarters, given both players aim well, since recoil is of no concern, the person who gets the jump will usually win. However, the Baur performs equally as well because of its identical kill time to the Voss. The Voss does have a larger clip, but that clip only contains enough ammunition for 1 more kill, and at the same time, the Baur has a reload time a whole second faster. Once we get to greater ranges, we start seeing the Baur pull away. First off, the Voss has the worst bullet deviation of all the assault rifles (the bullets stray further away from the red dot sights) while the Baur has the best. This means that at greater ranges, once one has mastered the Baur's single shot (fast click accuracy) and it's recoil (a single 4 shot burst = kill) it will still taken down an enemy in 4 -5 shots. However, because of the Voss's deviation, at greater ranges, more of the bullets will miss. This means, functionally, that the Voss may take anywhere from 8 - 10 shots to score a kill (which still comes quickly). The Baur, due to its better deviation, maintains a faster time to kill.

Baur ftw :D
