Wow, this is amazing, more than I expected are voting for U2! Hurrah! Incredible. 7-5 in The Beatles' favour at the moment ... come on U2 fans, we can win this! I'm pretty surprised - and rather pleased - that ps139 and nadroj both went with U2.

Um ... Sleepy Jean, what U2 CD did you get?

Yeah, I was initially leaning toward the Beatles, but then I thought...what makes a band? Studio albums or live performances? I bet the Beatles concerts were all preplanned sets of 3 minute songs, attended by a crowd of rabid girls virtually foaming at the mouth. U2 has innovation and creativity, aren't scared to extend a song, and I am sure there is so much real, geniune energy at their concerts vs. Beatles. U2 deserves it.

Oh yeah, in case you didn't know I'm not a very big Beatles fan, and from what I've heard of U2 they are at least above average, if not pretty good.

I'd still give U2 the edge with studio albums as well. The Joshua Tree is probably a better studio album than any Beatles album (except maybe Abbey Road).

correctomundo! :clap:

It's good to see nadroj1985 and ps139 went with U2 is this one, and others who voted. Good to see! We need to beat The Beatles on this one.

There is a U2 song on my sound file called Walk on, it's live and one of my favorites. It's annoying when everyone i ask "who is the best band in the world? it's the same old Beatles everytime. People need to choose their own opinion. :)

Vote U2!!!!

Hehe, I'd believe that!

aren't scared to extend a song
That's so true. Two really good examples;

1. The studio version of Bad is 6:09 in length (5:51 in the Best Of 1980-1990 edit). My favourite live version is roughly nine minutes in length and I have at least two performances in my collection (brilliant performances, might I add) that are more than twelve minutes in length.
2. The studio version of 40 is 2:36 in length. My favourite live performance is 8:29 long and again, I have longer in my collection.

And that's not to mention the fact they continually reinvent songs live (i.e. Bullet The Blue Sky, since its first performance in 1987, has been reinvented for each tour) and though they're known to pre-plan a setlist, they're not afraid to break the plan - for example, at Antwerp in 2001, they invented a song right on the spot. That's coolness.

and I am sure there is so much real, geniune energy at their concerts vs. Beatles.
Ooo yeah! I can't wait to go to one - the live shows I have copies of simply have energy oozing out of them. Bono used to do some crazy things live - during Sunday Bloody Sunday on the War tour, he'd wave a white flag, and at a Boston concert in 1983, he grabbed the flag, managed to fit the base of the pole in somewhere on the stage so it was firm, put the other end up against the railing of the upper deck of the theatre they were playing in, climbed up it, and sung the rest of the song while dancing on the railing. During one performance of The Cry/The Electric Co. in Germany, he randomly scaled some 150-foot scaffolding, and on numerous occasions he's jumped into the crowd or pulled people from it on the spur of the moment.

The band - particularly Bono (once dubbed "vocals/arms/energy") - thrives off a live setting. There's a reason they're called the best live band in the world.

Yeah, I knew you weren't a fan, but I was still a little surprised. Nice to see the U2 support! We'll have you converted into a fan yet! Hehehe.

Edit: I'd just like to point out that U2 currently LEADS the poll 11-10. This is VERY exciting. C'mon U2!
