...The reviews are in:

Chris Sawin of the Houston Film Critics Society: "It’s ridiculous how little the massive $250 million blockbuster does right."

Jason Roestel of the Seattle Examiner: "It's a fussy, disorganized, mega-negative bust. A cinematic freighter, sluggish and industrial, with a single course - to create cash generating franchises for Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment - yet with absolutely no direction."

R Adamic of San Jose: "This film may hold some kind of record for the sheer amount of plot holes it features. Almost every character automatically knows things important to the plot without any reason or way to know such things...the difference between a DC movie and Marvel movie is becoming abundantly clear. Marvel movies are put together by a team of people who have actually worked for Marvel Comics; DC movies, on the other hand, are put together by people at Warner Bros. who blindly crank out a script after playing a bad game of telephone with someone at DC."

Peter M. Roche: "watchable but weighty. The picture is loud and blockbuster big as expected, but it also feels bloated. We have no problem settling in for a little exposition and character development, but Snyder tasked with setting up the next DC installment—shoehorns superhero cameos and Easter eggs into an already compressed narrative, and it takes too long for subplots to converge and for storytelling tumblers to click satisfyingly into place."

Brian Zitzelman of Seattle: "By trying to cram so many characters, set-ups for future films and pseudo plot-twists, everything gets the short-shrift, even at 150 minutes...."

Paul Carlson of the Seattle Sun Times: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" isn't merely a bad movie because it will certainly disappoint fanboys/fangirls -- this is simply a heartless spectacle that trudges to its main event."

Tim Estiloz of the Broadcast Film Critics Association: "This DC Comics attempt to replicate the magic, humor and sheer fun that led to Marvel’s multi-superhero packed “The Avengers” is, instead, an overly dark, excessively brooding, ultimately overstuffed mess whose failing lies squarely at the feet of its director Zack Snyder....the film is a dark and dour disappointment."

Timothy English of the Kansas City Film Critics Circle: "Dawn of disappointment... The film is a narrative mess. It's a mess. A train wreck... The film is a beautiful disaster. As incomprehensible as it is, there are moments of glorious promise that make it hard to look away. But make no mistake, this is a huge step in the wrong direction..."

Heather Turk of LasVegas: "...audiences can’t help but feel that the hype and secrecy surrounding “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has to lead up to something more than the climax director Zack Snyder ultimately delivers. There’s no big surprise revealed for die-hard comic book fans, and the final action sequence isn’t anything too spectacular."

James Dooley of Boston: "Zack Snyder’s direction was all over the place, with scenes seemingly stitched together....Henry Cavill, seemingly directed to have as little charisma as possible by Snyder, who is often very wooden in many scenes, especially character building scenes that sort of took away from the movie. Jesse Eisenberg also missed the mark completely as Lex Luthor, devolving him into a ticky, high pitched weasel that never seemed threatening...The performances of this movie are a mixed bag, but the clear standout is Ben Affleck, who shines as Bruce Wayne AND Batman."

Ben Affleck responds:

I am not the least bit surprised. Meanwhile, produced by people who know how to make a Superhero movie, Captain America Civil War is only a few weeks away.

I have no interest in superhero movies, but I know well enough that critical reviews rarely mean anything to personal taste. A few of my own all-time favorite movies were lambasted by critics and yet still have many ardent fans, so I always prefer to make up my own mind by seeing a movie myself rather than let some random name in a newspaper dictate to me how I should feel about it.

Well, it's at least important to keep that in mind if someone who actually likes it comes into this thread. I saw the trailer for it and thought it looked passable, but not enough to make me want to see it.

That is true.

That is also true.

My purpose in starting this thread was...well...diverse. I grew up reading Marvel Comics, a habit which followed me into adult life. I recall reading Iron Man one cold February night will pulling DMZ duty in Korea, and reading The Avengers on route to the Gulf. I was never a DC fan, and always thought Superman rather pointless and shallow as a hero. I am a huge fan of Marvel movies. Therefore, after months of suffering through the hype for Batman v. Superman, I admit enjoying a bit of personal satisfaction in reading DC once again missed the mark. The Dark Knight represents the zenith of DC comic movies, in my opinion, and they have been going down hill ever since.

Marvel, on the other hand, is actually telling well crafted stories while remaining true to the source material. Batman v. Superman had all the appearance of being made up as they went along.

Suicide Squad may be good, but if so it will only be because DC copied the template used for Guardians of the Galaxy.

i believe suicide squad predates gotg in the comics and i believe only recent incarnations gotg have they become rogues gallery we see in the movie. i believe in very original gotg title it was made up of a very different cast of characters involved in interplanetary war. however the rogues gallery version came out several years or more before the movie.

cant say i care for jared leto's joker.

i will wait for home video rental on bvs. alittle poed about the spoiler in the last trailer which also happen to po many superman purists.

I'm actually shocked at the overwhelmingly poor reviews Batman v. Superman has been getting. I wasn't very impressed by the trailers and I didn't like Man Of Steel but I never imagined that the Rotten Tomatoes score would be in the 20s. I haven't seen it yet and I probably won't get to until it comes out on DVD.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of impact this has on the rest of DC's movie line up.

There are lots of movie that are called flops and bad that I seen and was like "Really? This wasn't that bad!". Such as Battlefield Earth and Waterworld. Were they the best movies ever? Nope. But they weren't terrible in my opinion. I think alot of the hate for BVS comes from comic book fans who hate anything thats inaccurate. They should know by now rarely are movies accurate that come from reading material. X-Men, Batman, Superman, Avengers. Lord of the Rings and so on have never been accurate. I just think of them as "Alternate Universe" stories.

I have a friend who's into superheroes. When it comes to stuff with characters he likes he and another friend seem to basically lose all critical thinking skills and act like fanboys. It's understandable, but as someone who isn't really a fanboy for anything I can't understand it.

Ironically, DC is much older than Marvel. I'm still trying to make my way around, of course, since I was basically introduced to the whole canon outside of Batman and Superman only about a year ago.

People can be very petty about critics as well. Just look at the Nostalgia critic. This or that movie is now bad because he said so. Granted, he's exagerrating for humor, but people take critics seriously.
