From AmIAnnoying.com:
"The festival tradition of releasing a prisoner begged for by the crowd was never recorded outside of the New Testament and was not heard of anywhere in the Roman Empire."
I e-mailed them the following:
"The reason why you have never heard of that is because Pontius Pilate didn't want to crucify Jesus. He did everything he could to get out of having Jesus put to death and he was looking for an excuse to get out of executing him. He thought that if he gave the people a choice of releasing either Barabbas, a murderer.....or Jesus, a man claming to be the Son of God, that the people would pick to release a man who they thought was just crazy instead of releasing a killer."
That's my theory. Thoughts?
