i was just curious about how some of you were baptised.. like if it was done during a church service, or in another service, whether or not you had to give a testimony, or any other info you'd like to volunteer.  lately, i've been feeling led to be baptised.  it was mentioned in both the churches i attend (away at college so i go to the one i'm closest to on any given sunday).  it also appeared to me in scripture last night, and i felt a stirring within me to go through with it.  anyhow, the dilema is which church to go to do this.  each church does it a different way.

i'd appreciate any info you could give me

God Bless!

My baptism was the most treasured experience I have. I was baptized as a baby but this does not count for me. After I repent and take Jesus as my Savior the Holy Spirit start to lead me in the direction of baptism. Every time I read in the bible it was about the baptism until I decided to do it. I recall the moment when I arise from the water – it was so awesome. The congregation sang the song ‘This is the day.’ The anointing was all over me and it felt so good.

I took my mother with to be a witness – I was raise in a traditional church totally different from the Pentecostal one. In this service God spoke to my mother and tell her to follow Jesus the same way I did. My mother accepted Christ as her Savior just then.

I believe Jesus came into my heart before I prayed the sinner's prayer. I had already known I was a wretch by the time I had walked into the church taht day, no one had to convince me I was a sinner. But that day, God revealed Himself to me and I knew I was loved. I am so thankful for the person who discipled me when I told them my experience, they prayed with me, went through teh Romans Road to make sure I understand. They then told me how to join the church. I just wanted to to let everyone know that God loved me and that I was trusting Jesus. They love to tell teh story that the Pastor had just starting inviting and I was already walking forward. At that point, i was so excited to be loved and one of God's children that I woudl have road an elephant, stood on my head, or whatever to prove that I loved Jesus. Thank goodness, there were people who mentored and discipled me and showed me that baptism was an obedience to Jesus. I was disappointed I had to wait a month before I was. It was a part of the service before the congregation, they all welcomed me to the Family of God. I was a little nervous and the woman who helped me get ready with my robe and stuff prayed with me. Such a beautiful peace filled me and stayed with me for sometime that day. I also remember giggling to myself when I saw the pastor have on fishing waders!!! LOL I always wondered how he stayed dry! :)

Altya, I was so thirsty for the Living Water ! :)

He seems to know JUST the right time. I'm checking out another church on Sunday. Its been a real blessing to praise and worship Him again Last week, the sermon I listened too was actually testimony from missionaries. It was really wonderful, but I am so hungry for teachign from God's word again. I love reading and studying with you all, but there is nothing like an annointed message from a Pastor out of the Bible and directly to our heart, filling our spirit with the bread of life.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

I got baptised when i was a baby so i don't remember it, But it was just where the pastor dipped his fingers in the water and placed them on my head.  Is there a difference when you are baptized in water with your whole body, rather than the way the pastor did it to me when i was a baby? thanks for all who help

I was baptised both ways myself. One was done out of love of parents who wanted to dedicate me to God (thank you Mom and Dad!) The other was my concious response to God saving me and a way of showing the whole world I was ready to follow Jesus.

Pray and ask God to speak to your heart about it :)

God kept telling me, well revealing to me the verse that says "put to death your old man, and rise again with the new man".. something along those lines. And i coudln't think of anything else that i needed to get out of my life, because i'm overcoming something.. and so.. I something drew me towards this thread. I'm always curious about baptism and whether or not i should be rebaptised whatnot. I'm not sure. But it all fit together when I realized that i should be baptised, like not just water dabbed on my head, but with my whole body, where you come out of the water and 'become new'. So i believe that this is definetly what God wants. I'm pretty confident. :)

Praise be to God and let the Angels rejoice for your decision.
Christ was baptized by water and Spirit, as we are to follow in His footsteps. John 1 & 3 discusses this clearly.

Acts tells us that we should confess our sin then profess our faith and then be baptized.

Corinthians tells us to be immersed, to be buried so we may bury our sin and be born a new creature.

John 13:5-6
Shall shed a little more light on the previous comment.

Any Christian can baptize you anywhere.
It sounds like you wish to make this among a congregation; which is awesome. I would base your decision on the Church you wish to be involved with more than not. A steady fellowship and the building of friends wold be easier, and more beneficial to not only to the church, but also to your own growth.

Many churches baptize differently based on certain interpretations.
Lutheran: baptize infants, based on the concept of households were converted in the first century.
Catholicism: based on the assumption when one is born they are already born of sin, and not into a world of sin.
Methodist: follow the same princple.
Non-denominational: practice immersion based on the info listed above.
Pentecostal: some by spirit, some by both.

Baptism:
the word Bap in greek means for a ship to sink, to submerge underwater.
this is not a disputed definition.
therefore to be baptized, means to be immersed under water.
John 3 disccuses this more in detail like the book of Corinthians.

Edouard
May God give you direction and guide your heart mind and soul.
Amen.
