If you were baptised as a baby, were you rebaptised after you got saved? Why or why not?

I was baptised as a baby. I have not been baptised again since being born again 6 years ago. I will do it when the opportunity is available, but I'm not anxious about not having done it yet. I guess I'm kinda on the fence here. I dont feel an urgency in my own situation, and yet my girls, (7 & 2), are not baptised and I strongly feel it would be wrong to do so.

this should be in the christian advice too, if you need more input. i find all sorts of support there. anyway. when you are baptzed/christened it is different than being baptized. some parents do it as a tradition, and some do it as dedicating their baby back to God. when you are older, it is a personal decloration between you and Christ that symbols casting away the flesh to live in the spirit (lots of desciptions for that)... and let me tell you... the blessings that come from the spiritual side of dedicating your body through washing in baptizm is so awesome... the act of being washed... everything is so wow... i can't figuar out how to tell it. it's that special moment between you and God that is the perfect glimpse of His glory, mercy, love.....
it's consecrating yourself... read the baptizm of Jesus....

I was baptised as a baby and when I accepted Christ at 18 I just wanted to be baptised, no deep theological reason for it. I was in the military so it wasn't that easy to find someone to do it so I had to wait about a year and a half. Actually about 2 years after that a Oneness group talked me into doing it a third time only this time it was in the name of Jesus, for whatever reason that was important. As it turns out I was also circumcised as a baby for health reasons so I think I have been sufficiently ceremonialized.

Grace and peace,
Mark

The reason there is so much disagreement on this issue is that the Bible contains no guidelines for water baptism other than to
say it is a required ceremony.Accordingly, infant baptism and water sprinkling on the head is acceptable although of course full body baptism as an adult is much more meaninful.I just read the prior message from someone who said that a "oneness" church required him to be baptised in the name of Jesus, something that Jesus did not have done when He was baptised in the name of His Father.Further following Jesus' example,it is clear that only one ceremony is required during our lifetime.

The truth of the matter is that it really doesn't make any difference what form this ceremony takes. However since it is a requirement for salvation, getting children baptised before they turn 13,the Jewish age of religious accountability, makes sense.

What is of concern is that some people become so worked up over the non-biblical rules for a simple ceremony while they give no thought at all to the second and far more important baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit which is also an absolute requirement for salvation. How much water is dumped on our heads and when it is dumped is a totally irrelevant issue if God does not answer our prayers by sending the Holy Spirit into our lives. It is this second baptism that confirms that God has placed us on the road to salvation.:priest:
