  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, all! One of my brothers and his family are Roman Catholic, and their youngest son (born in Sept.) is going to be baptised this coming Sunday. What would be an appropriate baptism gift? Thanks for any suggestions you might have.:)

How about a nice icon of the baptism of our Lord that could be put in his room? Many catholics love icons and you could celebrate both your traditions by that gift.

Warm regards,

Yes, that is a good idea. I also thought of getting an icon of St. Anthony, since that will be his patron saint (but his middle name is Joseph, so I guess they could go with that, too). Problem is, I just found out about his baptism today, and it will take place this coming Sunday. There are no stores around here that sell icons, they have to be ordered. Any other ideas?

Thanks for your input, btw.

How about a small gold cross? Or a child's bible? Most bookstores do carry "Children's bibles". My daughter had one from when she was little called "My First Bible", which was some simple bible stories with illustrations.(At that age & level it doesn't matter much whether it is an "official" translation- it is really pretty basic stuff). She LOVED it. Also, if you have a store that carries kids' bible story videos, that might be good, too...
