Baptism...a few questions

I've been going to church for the past three weeks and my husband would always ask me how it went and what they talked about when I got home (he's non-Christian and doesn't go) This time he asked the usual curious questions as well as whether I'd thought about getting baptised.

I told him I didn't know...he brought it up completely out of the blue and it threw me a bit so I just mumbled the first thing that came into my head lol. Anyway, truth is I have thought about it alot beforenow and I would like to be baptised but I have a few questions.

I'd feel uneasy approaching someone in the church about it as I've only been there three weeks. How long were you folks attending church for before getting baptised? Did you just approach someone and talk with them about it after a service? And do all churches baptise? The one I attend describes themselves as an evangelistic Anglican church and it's CofE.

We sometimes have just guests in our church that come to be fully submerged baptised because there aren't that many churchs that do that around here, but seeing as though you've been going hteir a few weeks then people will obviously know your face so I don't see why it would be a problem to go and ask what you would do about getting baptised - All you have to do is ask

There's no time limit, like how long you've attended or whatever. Obviously God has been speaking to your heart about this so now it's time to pick up the phone and call the church office and set an appointment to speak with a pastor. The pastor can answer your questions and talk you through this important decision.

Were you baptized as a child?

Before or after service is a busy time for most pastors and the distraction level is high so best you call and find a time during the week that's convenient.

I already think of myself as a follower...just an unbaptized one. I first started believing when I was around 11 after I started attending a Christian fellowship club at school. My parents didn't and still don't believe though so I never went to church. I drifted away from Christianity during my teens and have recently come back, this time knowing much more about it and that it's right for me. I've been studying my bible and was just drifting along on my lonesome until a few weeks ago when I started going to church. Doesn't feel right without being baptized though...It kind of feels like somethings missing...that's probably not the best way to describe it but I can't think of how else to put it.

that's an EXCELLENT way to describe it!
And that's exactly what you need to tell the pastor.

What you are going through with the question of getting baptised and your husband had been asking you about it and so on was quite similiar to my situation when I got baptised. I was a two year old Christian when I got baptised. There's no time limit as to when you should get baptised but it's God's timing as to when you should get baptised. When I was a year old Christian, I wanted very much to get baptised but nothing seems to work out.

I began to put it aside until a year later, people was talking to me about baptism. I prayed about it and these people also prayed for me. After I've confirmed that it came from God and it was His timing, I went for the baptism at a church I've been to only once. I was in Australia back then and I was attending an AOG church, baptised in a Methodist church. I come from a Methodist background and today, I serve in a Methodist church myself.

Pray to ask God to reveal to you what He wants you to do and had a confirmation from Him as to whether it's His will for you to get baptised now. Look upon the Lord and go to tell your Pastor. He will have everything arranged for you. If your church don't baptise, ask your Pastor to refer you to another church.

I know at my church we don't do baptisms regularly like every month or something. We just set up a date to baptise someone when they ask for it. When they know what it means to be baptised and show that they have become followers of Christ. Last weak we had such a time and we all went to a church member's house with a heated pool but the ones who asked to be baptised didn't show up... We stayed and talked for a while and eventually went home. It was good fellowship and I know our whole church is delighted when someone decides to give their heart to the Lord or decides to be baptised after knowing the Lord for much of their life.
I personally have known the Lord all my life and just got water baptised Oct. 24 1999.
So I encourage you to ask your pastor about how and when you could be baptised.

Yes, but I don't see what it wrong with that. Unless these days it's illegal to believe in Jesus and follow Gods word without being baptised first.

Hello again sister! I would encourage you to approach someone as soon as possible (the priest is the obvious person) and talk about it.

There is no time limit, but they may want you to do some things first -- possibly some basic Christian teaching, etc.

It is good to be an unbaptized follower ... but better to be a baptized one!

I just thought that Anglican's believed that there is no salvation without baptism.

I'm on sure on that point as I've not been Anglican that long. Personally, from my studies so far, I do lean towards believing that baptism is required for salvation. Since coming back to Christ I knew that I would get baptized...it's just a matter of when, where and then going through with it.

I'm not sure how all churches baptise. I know the Church of Scotland here (CoS) baptism with a 'sprinkle' of water. My own church, which is independant baptise with full immersion, for want of a better phrase. I also know my local Episcopal church (which I believe is the same as Anglican, although I may be wrong!) also does 'full' baptism.

I also think that when you choose to get baptised is entirely up to you - if you feel you are ready then I would urge you to go ahead I wanted to be baptised weeks after I was converted but one of my christian peers wanted me to wait a little while longer, to grow more with God and to be sure that I understood fully what I was doing. I did take that advice and will now be getting baptised in December (10 months after I was saved). My mind has not been changed in anyway by the wait, and I do feel more mature in my walk now....but I still feel I could have gotton baptised all those months ago!

Listen to God on this, let Him guide you and, if you haven't already done so, study scripture relating to baptism. I wouldn't think there is any problem with approaching one of your church leaders/elders about being baptised, it should be something they can guide you with.

I was at my church I believe 2 weeks when the minister brought it up and he had mentioned a couple others taht wanted to be baptised and he said if we were going to do it we better do it soon (this was the end of August) well after service I told him I also wanted to be baptised, he said oh ok, then later I approached him again about consel appt and that was it.
I would just ask for a consel appt with the minister and speak to him about it during then.

I've been meaning to contact him for ages but I'm so shy (more like socially anxious) that I couldn't get up the guts to pick up the phone. There was a notice asking those interested in confirmation to contact him in the little newsletter they give out at the beginning of each service so I thought I should stop feeling anxious and just contact him in any way, shape or form that I could.
