I am getting baptized on 11/02, this coming Sunday. I am so excited! I just came back to Christianity in August and have been attending a wonderful church for the past few months! I never knew I could be so excited about something.
For those of you who remember your baptisms, can you tell me what to expect? I was given a script with an example, but I am sure the real life thing is different. how did you feel after you were baptized?
I am so excited! I appreciate anything you can all tell me.

Prayers,

Jacob

I was just baptized a couple of weeks ago so it's fresh in my mind. Keep in mind my church may do things differently from yours. My pastor called me to the front where the tank was and I sat in front of everyone and verified that I had accepted Christ and so forth and then the pastor asked me if I wanted to say anything. After that I held my nose with one hand and held his arm with the other and went down. I felt very good about what I had done. It felt wonderful to proclaim my beliefs in front of that many people. Now I have heard of people really being filled with the Holy Spirit when they come out of the water (speaking in tongues, etc.) but that wasn't the case with me or anyone else that got baptized that day. Congratulations on your baptisim, it is a truly meaningful experience.

Congratulations! I was baptized as an adult, too. (See the photo in my profile. :) )

I was baptized into the Orthodox Church and I see you're affiliated with the Episcopal Church, but there are probably plenty of similarities at least in the structure of the service. First of all, you *might* be wearing something like a robe of some sort, depending on your church. The priest will probably ask you to renounce Satan, acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, etc.

Then (if it's full immersion) you'll step into the baptismal font and probably kneel down. The priest will say "I baptize you in the name of the Father--" (dunk) "--and the Son--" (dunk) "--and the Holy Spirit." (dunk) If you're not being baptized by full immersion, he might pour water on your head one or three times, or sprinkle your head one or three times, but he will ALWAYS baptize you, no matter where you are, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and nothing else.

After that it is usually pretty straightforward. I'm not sure what kind of confirmation rite the Episcopal Church has but that's what I was given afterwards and it might follow immediately in your case. If you have any more questions, you should call your priest and ask him.

Don't worry if you're feeling a little nervous or uncomfortable; trust me, it's well worth it. After I was baptized, it felt like the whole world was incredibly bright and clean. I felt REALLY strange about having to be baptized in front of the whole congregation, in a horse trough of all things, wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but I prayed for guidance and it went fine, and I am really so glad that I made the decision to join my church.

By the way, if your baptism is full immersion, don't forget to HOLD YOUR BREATH!!! I didn't time my breathing correctly with going underwater, and ended up with about a gallon of "sanctification" in my lungs! ;)

Congratulations! Baptism is a huge milestone in your Christian walk. Good for you for allowing God to work with you through Christ and the Holy Spirit to get you to this point!

Remember that baptism singnifies a new beginning and new way of life. You are showing that you are willing to live your new life in service to God and in prayer, while being a faithful witness of God's love to the world.

I believe that your baptism will prove to be a very meaningful experience to you. I will keep you in prayer.

Peace.

Well everyone,
It's all over (Or all just begun, depending on how you look at it) and I can tell you all that I feel GREAT! The whole baptismal experience was wonderful and it will be something I will never forget! I didn't think it would be as great as it was.
I was wearing a white robe and I had to get into the water and stand there. IT WAS COLD! Then, my priest dumped 3 bowls of water over my head. He filled a fourth bowl and I asked if that was "one to grow on," but that did not find it's way over my head. I was so wet! But, I felt so wonderful. And I had such an awesome day! Everyone clapped and I truly felt different. I felt cleaner, more alive and much calmer than I am used to feeling.
Well, it was such a memorable experience. A baby was baptized right before me and she didn't seem to enjoy it as much. But, I can honestly say that I rarely felt as good and as close to Jesus as I did after that baptism. A very important day that I will never, ever forget.
LOVE and hugs to everyone who supported me and I wish you could have been there.

Prayers,
Jacob

Congratulations Jacob! Did you happen to get any pictures taken?
My mom was there but did not bring a video camera or regular camera. There were several people with video cameras and cameras, though, and they were all filming me. I am going to ask my priest if he knows anyone that can get me some copies. If so, I will post them so everyone can see me all wet.
