Thanks heaps, mate! That's the one I'm thinking of.

I know it belongs in the listening to thread, and it isn't music, but I'm listening to "Australiana" by Austen Tayshus. Clever and just brilliant comedy!

Lol I don't like to speak ILLAWARRA... ask him if he'll come.. he said yeah and that VEGEMITE come too! And last Sunday me mate BOOMER RANG... priceless stuff!

Y'know, I'd forgotten about all the truly great bands from Australia. I love listening to INXS (especially Elegantly Wasted, Never Tear Us Apart or Don't Change), Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, Men At Work, Powderfinger (My Happiness or We Should Be Together Now, great stuff!), The Church, Natalie Imbruglia, Rick Springfield, The Vines, Jet...well, Split Enz is from New Zealand, but that's okay, right?

I've been known to listen to Olivia Newton John's "Physical" from time to time, and of course "You're The One That I Want" from Grease. I also have a few songs of AC/DC's that I'm partial to.

And I know that technically they're also from New Zealand, but one of my absolute favorite bands is Savage Garden. I can't even start to say how much their music has been a big part of me for the last seven or so years. "Tears Of Pearls", "A Thousand Words", "Chained To You", "Gunning Down Romance", and "The Best Thing" have all been kind of soundtrack songs to my experiences in the relationship sector. And of course I can't forget "I Want You". Funny enough, it actually came up in a conversation today at a party for my school's yearbook staff, which I'm on.

Okay, I'm gonna shut up now and stop being so overenthusiastic so I don't look like an idiot :D .

All excellent replies. Thank you all for your contributions.

I'll mention a couple of bands & artists that I think the US haven't seen yet, but will make it O/S I think. Pete Murray's a bit like Jack Johnson in that he does some great acoustic rock, but he's not too technical, which suits the feel of the songs that he's released. Even though I don't have much interest in most solo females, Delta Goodrem is just brilliant. Wonderful and thoughful lyrical ballads, that are refreshing compared to my pet hate of girly pop music. If Kylie's any indication, she has a massive future.

I shall add more later.

Savage Garden, Kiwi? Pfft, NO. If I remember correctly, they're Logan boys, from just north of me. Even if they are Kiwis, you Aussies can have them. Just don't steal our quality bands, OK? Crowded House and Split Enz are New Zealanders - keep your grubby hands off them!

i can't believe no one has mentioned kylie or dannii minogue yet.
I'm glad no-one has. National embarrassments. I'm thankful I'm not Australian, just live here.

The Living End are freakin' awesome. All Torn Down is one of the best songs ever made. I also adore Powderfinger. I'm not seeing what's so great about INXS, though.

If you wish, Axver! I'll change the thread title to include NZ's finest, since I think Crowded House are sheer quality.

Well yes, Dannii might be. Kylie's old stuff's OK, but she's gone to poppy for me to even consider listening to.

Some INXS is fantastic (Never Tear Us Apart) and some isn't as fantastic. Personal preference I suppose. The Finger and the Living End are quite ace.

I can't stand anything by them. Kylie's getting pretty close to being the definition of everything I hate. Close. She's bad, but she's not Britney/Outkast bad.

Yeah, some of what INXS made is good, but I just can't get into it. The most I get into it is when Bono quotes it live, haha. I'm not so keen on The Living End's newer stuff, but some of their older songs are marvellous. I need a Powderfinger CD or two.

You beat me to it Axver! Rivalry it shall be then, mate!
Long live the Shaky Isles!

the butterfly effect, powderfinger, ac/dc, the living end, antiskeptic, grinspoon, jet, john butler trio, spiderbait
Yep, all excellent bands, Roo! Particularly like your mentioning of the John Butler Trio. I heard "Better Man" for the first time in ages on Saturday night and smiled. It's got some great slide guitar in it, as do most of their other tunes.
