Well, SOTF has told us that the world needs more Canadians, which would be fair enough if Australia didn't have 11 milllion less people than Canada! :)

Partly inspired by the fact that I had no idea of most of the Canadian bands you guys were talking about, and the popularity of bands like Jet and the Vines in the US at present, I'm inviting you all to wax lyrical about your favourite Australian musicians and bands, if of course you have any. If you don't, just join in anyway!

Um...... INXS would would have to be Australia's best band ever! I have most of their albums. Shaboo Shoobah, The swing, Listen like theives, KICK, X, Full moon dirty hearts, Elagantly wasted and live Baby live. My favorite album of theirs is KICK. My favorite song Is "Kiss The Dirt"

Silverchair Is another great Band, I liked Diorama.

Powderfinger I think would have to be our best band at the moment. But I've only heard Odyssey Number Five and "My happiness" Is the best song from that.

Midnight Oil is a good long lasting Aussie band, though I couldn't stand their last song "Golden Age"

Everclear is cool, I didn't like them at the start, but once I heard "Am radio" that got me Interested in them.

Silverchair are a great band, they have evolved to be really constructive musicians, good on them. Jet is rocking, they have the type of music you could party all night to. Something for Kate have an interesting feel to their music, it's very expressive. And Guy Sebsastian's songs have lots of meaning to them. That's just a few Aussie Bands and Artists I can think of. ^_^

Yay for responses! I agree that Silverchair have evolved nicely. "Tomorrow" was just pure hard rock, but "Diorama" was a fantastic album. I have the "Live from Faraway Stables" album and DVD pack which is just awesome. I didn't think Everclear were Australian, but if I'm wrong, please don't be afraid to let me know. There are so many great bands that we've produced, and I shall indeed list them periodically.

How about Paul Colman Trio and the Newsboys in the Christian scene...

Also there was Silverchair (just loved Freak and Anthem for the year 2000), Human Nature (ok boy bands like that suck but they sang real purty), CBD (again good voices), and of course Jet right now... man they get annoying but their songs just stick in your brain!! Does anyone remember the EasyBeats??? Love them!

OK now I'm really showing myself up to be a fraud but has anyone heard of the dynamic hypnotics? They had a HUGE hit here in Oz with "soul kinda feeling" but that was it... was a sort of rocky-jazzy song that i just adored... another band in that vein when i went thru my teeny bopper year was called Swoop, they had a hit called Apple Eyes... man I loved that song!!

Some good choices, LivingWorship. I do remember and like that Dynamic Hypnotics song. CDB were ok; there was a song they did with Tommy Emmanuel (Aussie guitar legend) that I never got the name of but I thought was great. And the Easybeats...

I call anyone mate if they're a decent person of any nationality, mate.

Yeah Kristian I think we're agreeing here... decent person, does that equate to respect? I guess so... and yeah I neglected to mention, nationality is not an issue... it better not be with someone like me... I have several nationalities that I know of... the joke goes like this... my local church is so multicultural, and some 35 nationalities are represented... well I make up 7 all by myself... ;)

O mate... I'm about 98% sure that the song you're thinking of was a cover of the Earth, Wind and Fire classic "After the Love is Gone", with CBD singing over the top of some beautiful Tommy Emmanuel guitar licks... that man is amazing!

Thanks heaps, mate! That's the one I'm thinking of.

I know it belongs in the listening to thread, and it isn't music, but I'm listening to "Australiana" by Austen Tayshus. Clever and just brilliant comedy!
