  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know..had to stopp last year too because I had my final exams at school and was in a ballett school where we had at least 2 lessons each day (including saturday and sunday where we were training for our performance). In the second term it was then up to 4-8 lessons a day depending on the day...so i had to quite in order to get good marks in my finals...it wasn't easy and i still miss it...but at least I'm working as a ballett teacher now...

Anybody want to gripe about sewing pointe shoes with me? I'm a horrible seamstress and the only time I ever sew a thing is when I put on my ribbons and elastics. I recently sewed two pairs at once at it took several hours, pathetic I know. That included taking the satin off the platforms though, which is always quite difficult though so I'm not a completely pathetic individual.

I always glue on some leather at the platform...with strong glue that's ok and you don't skid that easy...I've never tried to get the satin off....you might have to wait some time till the glue has dried but it normally doesn't take longer than 24 hours...

Concerning the sewing....I don't know a thing about that..my mum always sewed my shoesand if there was something getting loose I just took a stripe of Leukoplast (whatever that is in English...this thing like plaster which we also used to put it round the toes so we don't get blisters) and sticked the things together....

I might just try the leather Idea nextime, I know some people who use moleskin, but that just didn't seem to appealing to me. My mom used to sew my shoes when I was younger, but since I don't live with her now I don't think she would. Enjoy it while you can!

I usually hammer the snot out of my shoes...that and moleskin. I've never removed or resewn the satin. I wouldn't know where to begin with that...lol. How is it done?

I slit it with scissors, then pry it up a bit with fork of just my fingers, then just keep cutting and pulling until he platform is satin-free.

So basically, you are just removing the satin from the end? Where does the sewing part come in?

ballet for the past 3 years and hoping to get good enough for a professional schoool.
I have the basic body placement, can do the "Beginner #2" level on pointes, but didn't succeed in going up a level yet, because there is no transition phase for adults. It's just really difficult to do a pas de bourré à la seconde, when it differs from all the regular pas de bourrés I know how to do, and there is nobody to explain it to me...

I have a question: Once I was taking a class of contemporary, and saw the bare feet of this one girl I know takes ballet in more advanced ballet classes. They looked terrible. They didn't have a single bruse blisters or blood. no. That wasn't the problem. She had huge over developped bones- the bone that is above the big toe, you know what I mean? It was double, tripple size. Do you who do pointes have that? Is it something that comes from doing it when you are too little? Or is it universal? (will I get that?) Is it painfull? On her it looked to me that when she was on point it was probably painless for her toes, and probably no slipping in the box, but I was wondering if it hurt otherwise.

Well, now that I have 3 weeks vacation, I think I'm going to give the more advanced class a try. The last time I tried, I could only do the bar, and couldn't do the ronde-de-jambe-developpé, and made plenty of mistakes. After that, au millieu, I could folow the Adage and some of the other exercises, but kept making mistakes, not to speak of steps I don't know how to do (pas de valse en tournant) or steps I can't do (tour en attitude). Usually by the second class of the week I could follow with much less mistakes, and only the third lesson a week would I show progress. Well, one day, an old lady who does these classes tried to help me and told me that I should do some beginner classes, it would give me the right placement etc, and then I'll have an easier time in the more advanced class. I got so angry, I yelled at her, made a scene, made a fool of myself. And then I realised that the advanced classes are too difficult if I'm only going to go once or twice a week. I need three times a week and understanding from others. And I don't have time to do enough during Uni. So I went back to beginner, this time wearing pointes, and did everything right, except for the pirouettes and not doing the piqués fast enough. But that will come with time.

I don`t have that...and I've never seen an other dancer who had that....the worst I've ever got from pointe shoes was a lot of blisters (you where able to see the bone once - was standing on pointe a lot that day and forgot to put something inside my shoes to make me stand more confortable  )
