Who was in your party, acoustic? And you don't need to defeat the shadow dragon, either... but I did anyways, I wanted the Shadow Dragon Armor

Anyways, I beat it (without cheating!) probably three or four times. I love those games :D hehe

Ya I know, but it annoyed me when the guides said "and the Shadow Dragon is the easiest dragon in the game, you should have no problem." and I could barely touch him :p. I had my main character (a level 14 Kensai), Imoen, Aeries, Anomen, the red knight guy with the fire sword...Keldorn I think...it's been a while, and Minsc. But in the shadow temple I ditched one of them for Mazzy cause I wanted to level her up, I don't remember who it was. Probably Minsc. They were all around level 12-15 I think (except Mazzy I don't remember)

Really? That's a bit odd. The shadow dragon is definitely not the easiest, I don't think. That's ... wait, isn't he the one with the erally long name? Temple of the Morning Lord dude...

Hmmm. Well from waht I remember, I stayed invisible, buffed everyone, hasted, etc.... and then hacked away, gave him everything I had, summoned bears and stuff. :) He wasn't easy, but I could kill him generally. ;)

Well it wasn't Firkraag, I couldn'y even touch him. It was the black and gray dragon. And that's pretty much what I did. Invisibility, haste, charm, luck, bears, other summoned things. I even threw some ranged spells at him before I got within his sight range. Then I'd go in full force, maybe lay some traps next to him or something. Just nothing seemed to do any damage. Maybe my attack ratings or thac0 were low or something. I dunno. I haven't played in a while though.

Hm. How DID I beat him... I can barely remember, let me think a minute ;)

I know I beat him as an elven ranger (archer), as that was my main character. I also had Minsc and Aerie. I am fairly certain I had Jaheira as my priest, I dont' think I took ... er, the drow priestess that starts with S... I forgot her name. To top it off, I think I usually had Keldorn.

If I could, I set traps. I summoned *bears* as I am fairly certain they could injure the dragons, their claws are like +3 weapons or something like that. Magic missile got through now and then, also. My main idea was to seriously buff up Keldorn, Minsc, and myself, and tear him up that way. I think it took two tries the first time I did it.

I ended up beating all the dragons though... :) Except the good one, if there was a good one. I don't remember, mixing it up with ToB now :D

lol ya, the Drow priestess I think was Viconia or something...but ya I didn't know how to save her at the time...so she's kinda dead...well not kinda she's just dead. But maybe someday I'll come back to the game and face the dragon again. I seem to do better on games when I put um down for a while.

Some one said to feeblemind and then use an illusion spell to make him waste his own spells. I almost beat him once, and i couldn't get him after that because he uses protection from magic weapons and charm

There is one easy way, but it could be considered taking advantage of a bug.
Simply gather together as many Cloudkill spells, scrolls and wands as possible (about 10-12 should do it), and then position your party so that you cannot see the dragon. Then cast all of the cloudkill spells simultaneously, so that their area off effect clips the dragon. As it cannot see you, it will not go hostile, and the sheer amount of damage dealt out by the Cloudkill spells every round should eventually overwhelm his resistances and healing ability. Note that this works on each dragon in the game.

Bah, using cheap tricks is bad. The hint is to get a LOT of magical defense penetrating spells. One spellcaster is going to have to cast those nonstop. The others should try to get in status effects, while the priests heal the fighters. Just spread out so he can't multi-hit you easily, use chaotic commands, and it's a pretty easy fight. Now the Red Dragon? He's TOUGH.

You can beat most dragons without taking a single hit if you don't mind exploiting a game mechanic (or bug, as the case may be). I like to think of it as a game mechanic because then I don't feel so bad when I take advantage of it. :) Anyway, here's how to do it:

Dragons won't attack you on sight- they talk to you first. That being the case, select your entire party and click on the dragon like you would talk to him. Immediately pause. While the game is paused, click the attack button (sword in the bottom toolbar) and then click the dragon. Your party will attack the dragon but the dragon won't attack back for ~5 seconds. You can repeat the process to keep the dragon from ever going hostile. Choose 1 party member and have them talk to the dragon, pause, then have them resume attacking. If you do it right the dragon's circle should never change from cyan to red.

Note that this tactic is extremely cheesy. :)
