  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Bad Things are Bad.

So I assume that you are against laws against guns since only some people feel that the gun itself is the problem.

It would be a safe assumption.

The gun itself isn't harmful. It represents a power to defend oneself in a manner of ones own choosing that should be afforded an individual who has not abused it.

Freedom and responsibility go hand in hand.

There are limits and exceptions of course, guns probably rightful enjoy more regulation (regulation rather than banning or infringement through needless regulations or prohibitive taxes) because they CAN do a great deal of harm where things like pornography are unlikely to end up killing lots of people, but the gist of what I described should lead someone to what my position would be on any particular freedom.

guns arent the problem...the power people feel from guns is the problem...

I disagree. People who use guns to improperly exercise power almost always have a long history of other violence and he inappropriate exercise of power with tools other than the gun.

your statement agreed with mine.

Its the power thats the problem; the power of ANY weapons, ANY amount of empowerment one has over others(not just with guns) is the problem.

and since its easier to get rid of empowerment rather than the inherent evil nature of human beings, id say get rid of the guns rather than the people. and recycle the guns.

Well sure, that works if you have complete faith in your government. After all, you can just call the police on a criminal...but who do you call on the police? What did the people who founded this country do when their government became oppressive? Could they have done it without military grade weapons?
