Right ho, since this is bumped I guess it's time for my opinion on the End of Eva:

WHAT THE HECK DID I JUST WATCH?!? That was my reaction as the episode ended. The show really failed to inspire much confidence in me, I constantly wanted to smack Shinji, and the other characters were horrifically one dimensional, but the ending was really the final nail. Heck, the ending was enough nails to hold the coffin shut if it was Alucard inside. The birth of Nerv had so many jumps my head would hurt. Then they'd cut to an intermitable scene to build dramatic tension. If you're going to do an episode to explain something you can't cut it with slow scenes! It destroys the mood of both.
The final two episodes were their own brand of nightmare. I heard that their budget was gone for them, and I believe it. Stunk is the only word I can apply.

This is just a thought with absolutely no backing except what little I know of asian cultures.

I find that a lot of people find that almost all animes have either bad or okay endings, not many great one. I think that this might be necause of the differences between the cultures. I know in asian cultures you aren't really suppose to ask some questions (ex like in crouching tiger hidden dragon you aren't suppose to ask whether the girl lives or dies). This could account for some of the reasons people don't like the ending.

Again, for me, the worst ending has to be digimon season two. they had this whole second underlying story about the dark ocean and the whole 'sam being evil' thing and ken and kari were having good chemistry.... the fianl battle was pretty good, but then, PFT. Its like the story people had a brain fart or something. Suddenly its 25 years later and matt decided to just 'go to mars' instead of the moon. !!??!? and then ken married yolei, who is like the biggest ditz in the whole series. And finally, they just left the dark ocean story hanging. It was like 'la de da! oh! i dont feel like it. blah blah blah.' >_< (sorry if this is the anime that i ramble on about the most. Its just the one that ive seen all the way through, and plus ken is hot and deserved better.)

I really havent seen too many kenshin episodes, however from what i have seen, he totally rocks my socks. ^_^

I wish i could have seen the moncolie knights series ending. At first, it was poo, but it got pretty good near the end, but i had to go to a band thing. ON A SATURDAY MORNING. 0_0 I was sad... man, Dereck Steven Prince is like, the best dubbed voice actor of all time.

YAY kern! You're here! I was so waiting for you to show up again! :) A lot's changed since we last discussed something. :) As you can probably tell from my recent posts. ^^
It seems that way -- I shall have to read this part of the board more.

I don't post here that often, actually. I post more in News where I moderate and in the mod forums. :) Been kind of busy lately since S&C closed and all the flamers dropped in on News. ;)

I used to post a lot at the Christian Anime Alliance, until an admin and I had a disagreement and I eventually got banned over a misunderstanding for which someone else would have been forgiven-I reported him to the police in his town when he mentioned that he wanted to buy a Ruger 45 but was secretive about why. He banned me over that, however, the ban was more due to our longrunning disagreement centering around shounen ai and yaoi-I'm a fan, the admins there are most definitely not.

I now make most of my (few) anime-related posts either here at CF or on the messageboard at the Suna no Hoshi fansite. :) Also, you can always IM me. :)

Yeah, that's why I avoid that place. My opinions on Yuri are more along your lines then theirs, and they seem really closed minded about a few things (Hellsing evil? Rah Xephon bad? If I wanted to watch Care Bears I'd watch Care Bears  )

LOL, yeah-I don't want to start an interboard war though, since a lot of CAA people come here, but the closemindedness of the admins is a huge problem, and it's often hypocritical beyond all definitions: the admin who banned me could discuss Grand Theft Auto or the Scream movies as much as he wanted, while anyone clueless enough about how things went around there dared to mention Gravitation or Eva (before the Do Not Discuss list was posted) would get flamed and get their thread locked-and a "strike" issued against them, most likely.

Another bit of hypocrisy is another admin's *insistence* that het relationships are *always* better than shounen ai. So, in her mind, the RelenaxHeero pairing (which is a *fine* example of an obsessive/abusive relationship IMHO) and the TrowaxCatherine pairing *highlight for 16+ spoiler* (which is either cousin [in the anime] or brother/sister [the manga] incest) from GW are all just great since they're het. LOL.

A big reason many anime have bad endings is that they are incomplete -- it's very common for an anime to be based on a manga, but only tell about 1/5 or 1/4 of the story that the manga does and then just tack on some invented ending.

-Chris

Yup, that's pretty much the only reason. You see this happen in almost every series... one of the reasons I prefer mangas :D though some mangas are really cool as animations (like Naruto :D)

Yes, I totally agree. I hate where it doesn't even try to end it properly. I was so irritated whith the abrupt ending of Nadesico, but I don't know if that had anything to do with the manga (never read it).

If they would just give some small amount of closure to us, it would be fine. Unfortunately, most shows that I have finished have endings that are barely passable at best.

I think it's because when the original books are written in Japanese ( Katakana, Hiragana, or Kanji... not sure which)

 Just to help, Japanese manga, books, and pretty much anything written in this century is written in ALL THREE. It's used together.

See:
ÉnÉãÉJÇÕì?ñ{å?àÍÇÃéñǙëÂçDÇ´ÇÁǵǢ
Haruka wa Domoto Kouichi no koto ga daisuki rashii

(In case you can’t read the Japanese text, that’s what it says… though not being able to see the text defeats its purpose I guess…)

HARUKA is written in katakana.
WA, NO, GA and –KIRASHII is all hiragana
Domoto Kouichi, DAISU, and KOTO are all kanji

ALL THREE are necessary for writing a proper Japanese sentence, and though there are loose rules as to when and when not to use them, the fact of the matter is that especially in the comics they are use interchangeably and in certain contexts to imply various things.

I might be writing too much, but for example Japanese often will write a foreign word using katakana. That’s generally expected. But in a manga, if a Japanese person’s use of ‘thank you’ is muttered, slurred, or pronounced like a Japanese word (that is, no foreign emphasis, they will write it in hiragana. I’ve even seen it written in Kanji once, to emphasize the juxtaposition of an ancient samurai warrior speaking English.

Hope it helps for future reference.
By the way, the little squiggles at the sides of kanji are called Furigana, and are always written in Hiragana or Katakana. That’s the pronunciation of the kanji.

I talk too much.

most anime starts as a manga. Most manga starts kind of like a trial (like Aa! Megami Sama or Doraemon or Hime-chan no Ribon) and if it sells or if it is popular, it continues. That's why you get extrememly long series like Dragonball, Sailor Moon, Hana Yori Dango or Peach Girl.... they sell well, so it continues. Most manga artists don't start with the ending in mind at all - if it doesn't sell, it's often dropped before it ends, or if it does it's not allowed to end (contract with publishers). So endings are resultantly very sudden, based entirely on viewing audience.

If you're looking for good endings, try Summer Snow. Made me cry.

Evangelion's ending. The tv series ending was dissapointing and the movies where good up until Eva 01 was crucified... downhill from there.

The ending of Gunslinger Girl (the anime) was disappointing. Also, does anyone know if ADVmanga is going to release any more of the Gunslinger Girl manga? or is there only one volume?

Endless Waltz had some major flaws. It was too short. Not enough fighting. Too many unanswered questions. Worst of all, the final words of the narration at the end: "And the word mobile suit never again appeared in history (or something like that)" which effectively killed any chance for move OVAs.

I haven't seen the Kenshin OVAs but I hear the ending was really depressing. I know the manga ends differently, but I don't know how.

I liked Star Ocean EX, but it stopped VERY abrubtly. Nothing was resolved. At all.

As for DBZ, it should have ended after the Cell Games. The Buu saga was WAY TOO LONG and decent at best, and GT was ... bad. But like nekohase said, the author probably would have ended it much sooner if he could have.

I think that's enough for one post.
