Isn't Lost dealing with supernatural things that can't be explained...?

My question is, is Lost alright to watch for us Christians?

But you know what, even if it is, I really can't help myself because its my favourite TV series....of all time...lol.
I look at it as entertainment with a twist.

Mr. Eko and Charlie are building a church.
There is reference to the Virgin Mary.
Mr Eko is a priest.
Charlie was an alter boy.
Claire wanted herself and baby baptised.

No, I don't see a problem with Lost.

God is dealing with supernatural things that can't be explained. So is Jesus. Heck all of Christianity is full of supernatural things that can't be explained. ;)

Besides, not that this matters to the discussion, but the writers/producers of Lost have said that everything can be explained in a logical and scientific way.

But regardless, there's no problem with watching Lost as a Christian.

I don't think so.

First off, the show will probably always offer a scientific 'out' (or explaination) for anyone who doesn't want to believe that there are supernatural forces at work.

Second, I don't detect any intent by the writers to do anything but entertain. They're not promoting the events of the island as possibly 'real' - in the way, say, the X-files did. They're not trying to get us to believe in the paranormal. They're making a TV show.

Honestly, I don't think LOST even comes close to offering up the kind of controversy that Harry Potter or The X-Files or The Blair Witch Project could stir up. It's just doesn't have that sort of substance.

PS I actually think that LOST asks some really good questions about faith and skepticism. Questions that posed the right way, could be a great opening for sharing the Good News.

New Prediction: Before the show ends, there will be at least 2 Christian books on the message of LOST.

I'm just saying, its their ideas and concepts they convey...

But why do they have to bring relegion into this anway? That too Christianity...next thing you know, they're gonna say this is a Christian show...but in truth they actually don't know what they're doing but making other believe in the wrong concept of what Christianity really is...

Bringing the Bible into this, baptism...and all that crap...

I mean come on, COKE in the Virgin Mary? Doesn't that signify something?

I don't know, I mean as much as I like the show, if they don't know what its really all about, why bring that idea into the show?

It's Heroin, not Coke.
And it's a television show like not quite like any other out there but still a television show. Just sit back and enjoy it.

They are bringing Christian themes into parts of the show, but they are in no way making it a Christian show. They are not saying, "This is what Christianity is about." They might be saying, "This is what drug dealing is about" by using the Mary statues to stash the heroin, but that's what drug dealers do.

Don't worry so much about it. Every single thing we watch on TV or in the movies doesn't have to reflect our Christian faith.
