Yedida, I think what A Jay is saying is that he is Orthodox, when the circumstances allow. He may be in an area where he can't keep Shabbat like if he were in his own country, neighborhood. He also may not have any Kosher foods available, so he has to eat trief as it is vital to live and life superceeds the Kosher commandments. But when circumstances, and place allow he keeps Shomer Shabbat and eats from a Kosher kitchen, only kosher foods.
I'm glad you at least have that choice for protein. Can you ask for some MOM's? I can't eat too many of them because I have Celiac disease, but they aren't bad, the ones I can have such as the chicken and black beans. I buy em by the case for times when I may be in a place where there's nothing available. I'm also going to be ordering from La Bruite again, at Passover their KfP meals are also Gluten free so it's a bonus for me.That would be it. On a side note, I don’t have to eat trief, but tuna fish, salmon, and rice get very old after 60 days.

Am I correct in saying that the questionable/objectionable substances are in the fat of the animal, which God also prohibits consumption of (from any animal) and that the meat itself is not?
I've always thought people like bacon mostly because of the fat and salt content.
If you are a Christian, there are no dietary restrictions. Matthew 15:11 says: What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'"
Mark 7:18 says: "Are you so dull?" he asked. "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him 'unclean'?
1st Corinthians 10:25 says: Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, The earth is the Lords, and everything in it.
1st Corinthians 8:7-8 says:
7 But not everyone possesses this knowledge. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat sacrificial food they think of it as having been sacrificed to a god, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
1st Timothy 4:3-4 says:
3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving
1st Corinthians 8:4 says: 4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that An idol is nothing at all in the world and that There is no God but one.

Never really thought about it like that before...I knew (or thought I did) all about the Acts 15 verses about how the verse after the restrictions explain that "Moses is preached in the synangogue"...but, did not realize until just now how there WERE dietary restrictions. That definitely does blow the "there are no restrictions" argument out of the water.
Sometimes I doubt...hardly ever, but sometimes I doubt about being Torah observant because I am surrounded by Christians telling me otherwise. Then, another confirmation pops up. Thanks Lulav.
I was talking to a Protestant. Okay? Okay!
That smells like legalism. No! I do not think the old testament is useless or obsolete!

You're welcome, I'm glad someone got something from this, most look for loopholes around it.
Dan (just a couple of degrees off sane myself) C
If one is not "in sane" does that make him "out-sane"?
I wasn't being sarcastic. There's no need for sarcasm Leo.
Meh!This is the Messianic Forum and we don't believe that the Torah was done away with. What you call 'legalism' we call Obedience to our heavenly Father.
Why don't you tell me because honestly I don't think you know.As far as What you found in Acts 15, doesn't that contradict what you said about food in your first post?
Very minimal restrictions. As you saw, there are dietary restrictions.
I don't think it would be a good idea, but I'm probably not going to incur the wrath of God for eating it.Nothing means nothing, so if someone served you some skunk stew with centipedes and poision dart frogs, would you feel obligated to eat it?
So, the Bible goes against Jesus? You think those Bible verses are evil or wrong? All these quotes go against what Jesus taught, so it is up to you whom you choose to believe.
That means nothing.Remember the very first sin had to do with eating, and by being convinced by the adversary that all was OK to eat.
Let me emphesis the important part of the verse.. so that you can keep it within context...I wasn't being sarcastic.
Meh!

The topic there is idolatry, not kosher laws from God's Word.1st Corinthians 8:7-8 says:

Visionary has already pointed out that the foundational clause there is, "created to be received". God tells us explicitly in Leviticus 11 that there are some animals that were not created to be received as food.1st Timothy 4:3-4 says:
3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.
