  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I've worked backstage in a theatre for six years now doing everything from running crews to makeup to assistant directing. So what kind of experiences would you like to hear about?

As far as stagedoor experiences I had some great ones this past semester. I was in London studying abroad and there its very normal to go to the stage doors. I saw One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest with Alex Kingston (Elizabeth Corday from ER) and Christian Slater and the show Embers with Jeremy Irons after the shows I got to meet them and get my picture taken. It was a wonderful time. Those are my most influential stage door experiences.

I've had about 2 stage door experiences. One with Hairspray and the other with Thoroughly Modern Millie back before it closed. My favorite one would have to be after Millie.
I hadnt realized that Susan Egan (the original Belle from Beauty and the Beast and the voice of Meg from Hercules) was playing Millie until I read the program. I was really excited to meet her so I was pretty much weak in the knees when we were waiting outside the door. When she walked out, I grabbed my sister's arm and whispered "there she is!!". She was so sweet!! She walked over to us and my sister joked that I was about to faint, so Susan was like "Oh no dont faint!! That wouldnt be cool!" she signed our programs and took pictures with us and everything.
It was pretty cool :)

I went to see Beauty and the Beast on Broadway back in october with my fam and some friends and Donny Osmond played Gaston!!! After the play was over we waited outside the stage door and I got his autograph!!! There were tons of other people there too..........luckily i got his attention by saying i saw his video rendition of Joseph and i thought it was awsome!!

I have 2 backstage experiances. My first one is when I met most of the cast of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It was so cool, even though Raul Esparza didn't come out.
My second is when I got a backstage tour of the Gershwin Theatre after Wicked. A gal named Megan Sikora took us on the tour and along the way I met Megan Hilty and Ben Vereen. He was really nice.

oh cool, how do you know megan?

i know the chicago ensemble in wicked (a few of them) so they took me backstage... saw costumes, wigs, etc... amazing. dressing rooms too! then after the show, erin mackey (glinda) came out and i met her... we had won lotto, so she remembered me cause i was crying lots... and from when i was backstage.

then a few weeks later my sister saw wicked in chi again, and dee roscioli (elphie) remembered our story and everything! like, not us personally, but how we were there... if that makes sense.

and the other time i saw wicked (on tour in san fran) i got to meet eden espinosa... she was so sweet.

No stagedoor experiences to relate, but I have a ton of backstage ones... :)

Probably my fave ones were turning women into men...that sounds awful, but it was funny. Living in a small town, we have a CONSTANT shortage of men (hey guys that want lead roles...move to Qunicy! Easy to get! ;)), SO for "Calamity Jane," I had to turn to women into men for Doc & Rattlesnake. So...while painting a beard on one gal, this dude (playing Henry Miller) walks in and is like, "You know, I really don't think you're as good at this make-up thing as you think you are." And walks away...feeling like my stage make-up career had come to a close, he walks back up to me and says, "I thought you were supposed to make her look prettier. Cuz DANG, she's an ugly man!" ;)
