  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Oh my goodness, I just got back from the Children's Hospital ER. And Christian is allergic to fabric softner, and possibly fragrances. So we are to stop use of everything that has a scent in it. I didn't think baby's this young could get allergies! Though I know she is definantly my daughter now as I am sensitive to alot of things as well. I pray that her rash goes away soon, now that we have been instructed to stop useing baby oil, baby lotion and fabric softner. The poor thing has a terrible rash from her head down to her diaper, where it promptly stops, it does not go past her diaper, which is why the doctor thinks it is allergies, that and her right eye swelled up.

:( awwww....poor little baby! And poor mommy too!! s

We used the "Dreft" to wash Andie's clothes in for the first year...I think Ivory Snow is the same type (no fragrances or dyes)....be sure to wash everything she wears plus all her towels & washcloths!!

Also, think about your wipes you're using...probably shouldn't buy the scented ones...

I'm sorry she's having to go through this, and you guys, too....prayers that she feels better soon!!:prayer:

I didn't use wipes very often with my son either (and don't plan on using them much with this one either) when you look at the list of ingredients in those things it's pretty awful the amount of chemicals in them.

I just used plain water with cotton balls, or sometimes sorbolene cream. Then if I couldn't have been bothered a wet face cloth is good too. (but then I used cloth nappies so it wasn't much effort to be washing dirty face cloths too, but they were specific nappy ones :) )

I agree with what the others have said, about the washing powder.

Also, did you know that in flame resistant fabrics the fabric softener can reduce the flame resistance of them, so it's best not to use fabric softener anyway.

My eldest is allergic to stuff - Johnson's baby products were the worst.

I use Amway - SA8 - you can get a specific one for babies, but the normal one is fine. I had really really bad eczma when I was married because we used hubby's washing powder instead of what my mum was using. Eczma all over my body - it was winter. As soon as we went back to SA8 no worries. Haven't had a problem with my son's skin with it either. I use Huggies unscented wipes. Neither boy has had a problem with those. And I use Curash bath liquid. But I know this is no good for some kids either - sorbolene is a good thing for bathing in too. Can't think what my friend uses.... her kids skin is pretty bad.

don't worry - once you work out what triggers it it's usually pretty easy to avoid. If it is eczma though, keep an eye out for asthma cause they often go hand in hand, although often if one is bad the other is mild - but not always. We haven't got asthma at this stage, but then I didn't only had it mildly and when I was a bit older - but my skin is terrible!

When my son was a newborn we washed everything in Dreft, even his blankets and the cover off the baby swing before he used them. I didn't use any "Bounce" in the dryer either. After he came home, we slowly introduced each product (just like you do with baby foods later), first he did fine with bounce, then with our laundry detergent, and bleach for colors. So we stopped using Dreft after a couple months.

yeah we use Dreft, and we by unscented sensitive skin wipes, it just sucks not knowing how to make her feel better.

Could you give her some sitz baths in the tub until her rash gets better? There is an astringent product called Domeboro that you can get at the drugstore (Walgreens, CVS--whichever you have) and it's about $13 a box but when you mix a couple of packets in some warm bath water it's very soothing for skin irritations. I don't know how old she is, but if she can't sit up by herself, you could use one of those mesh covered bathing sling seats down in the regular tub--they're about $5 or so at Wal-Mart if you don't already have one.

I use a landry powder called 'eco' which has no chemicals, dyes etc, it is made here in NZ but I'm sure health stores in whatever country would stock a similar thing. I stopped using it for a while cause it's quite expensive but then my daughter got a rash all over her body, so I've gone back to using it.
