  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, my son was always in his sling when he was an infant. We also co-slept for the first few years. He's seven now and still very snuggly.

I figured it was a given with my daughter that we'd use the swing, co-sleep, etc... but she wanted absolutely nothing to do with any of that. I tried everything because that was such a precious time with my son but, nope, she'd fight her little heart out. Just goes to show, kids are definitely different. She's two now and still not snuggly in any way. Her way of showing love every great once in awhile is to come over to you and lay her head on your lap for about one second and then she's off again.

Congratulations to you on your baby.

I opened this thread to see what a baby wearer is. Is it someone who wears a sling?

I use a sling for my baby occasionally, normally when I want to go out somewhere and be hands free. It is very handy on the bus.

Occasionally I co-sleep with my daughter, also my son if he has a bad night, when he had an ear infection last week he was in with me. At one stage I had both kids in with me, (this was when husband was on the sofa bed because he sleeps out there on weeknights because our 2 mth old daughter wakes to be fed)

I have a sling, easier to nurse while older kids are at the playground or whatever. Not to mention I hate holding a kid while pushing a stroller!

But I don't wear babies in the house. (I do hold them, just don't function well with a baby in front!) So I don't think I qualify.

I also have no problem with letting my kid fall asleep while nursing, and staying there till someone wakes up to move them, but I don't tecnically cosleep, I put them down in their own bed at night to start. (usually) I also teach them to self sooth so they put themselves to bed, somewhere around the age of weaning (since there will be no nursing forever)

My son practically lived in his sling the first year. However, I rarely wore the twins, it was just easier to carry them. I did once use the sling and the backpack. Not very comfortable though.

Hmm. I hope when my baby gets here, it will like to be worn. that is pretty much how we planned on lugging around our kid. It just seems so much easier then wheeling a stroller down small aisles in the clothing stores or carrying your kid in its carseat or something. I don't even know how people do that.

I wore my son as an infant. When he wouldn't want to be put down, i would wear him in a sling. So that way I could have at least a hand free to do things around the house. I never mastered the art of BF while using the sling. He hated the stroller until he was about 8 months old. odd thing is, he really likes to ride in the store cart (seat of course). If he fell asleep on the way to the store, I wear him in the store.
My son started weighing 23 lbs. by the time he was 6 months old. Now at 1 y/o he weighes 25 lbs. There is no way I would be wearing him all day. Plus he doesn't ask to be held alot. The times he does its only for a few minutes then he is off on his way to destroy the house. :) Even though he is a year old I still use it. Its great b/c the weight doesn't go on your shoulders its mainly on your back. So the 25 lbs is tolerable. I can wear him for over an hour.

One thing about my sling (VS a carrier) is that when DD learned to walk (didn't own it with DS) I could put it around her like a belt and hold the other end while she toddled along beside me, she wasn't tall enough to hold a hand (DS was). I did that at the airport too while she played on the floor near me. And I did it while she sat in my lap on the plane not sure if it was really any safer but made me feel better.

I use my sling or Mai Tei carrier if I am going out with both girls by myself and need to keep a close hand on my oldest (like a store that has breakables and she can't walk by herself, etc). I don't usually wear it around the house and I get strange looks while I am out. Not many women wear their babies here.

I have been into attachment parenting since my 1st child. I am now on my 5th baby! I love baby wearing. I have many carriers, but my favorites are my mei tai, Baby Bjorn, and New Native sling. Have you ever heard of The BabyWearer? Its a great website! http://www.thebabywearer.com/

Yeah a fellow mei tai carrier wearer :D I got mine about 2 weeks ago and like it but am still trying to figure it out. It doesn't wear down my back like my sling does.

I tried a backpack or front pack with all but one of my kids (so far) and honestly, it was more hassle than it was worth. By the time they could hold their heads up sufficiently, they were just about too big for the tummy packs, and both kinds hurt my back.

I think I may try a sling this time around, if I can get one. I don't think I'll use it all the time, but it seems like it would be very handy for church and other places where nursing can be awkward.

I tried one of those front things to with my first and then someone who saw us out notified me that her legs were purple! The carrier had cut her circulation off to her legs!!! Therefor we never used that thing again.
I really like my slingeeze by www.parentingconcepts.com
