  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't put rice cereal in the bottle. Baby's shouldn't have cereal until
4 mos.
check with your doctor, could have some lactose intolerance
or colic.
have you talked to your doctor about it?
You could try another formula :sorry:
I only used soy formula (gentler), and breastfed,
so I don't know much about what's out there.
Prayers.

I agree....NO CEREAL!! Two months is waaaay to early for that....there's another reason for the gas.

Gas drops were a lifesaver for me with Andie....Mylicon drops, here's a pic:

I second christdefinesme, don't put anything except milk in your babies bottle. At two months his/her digestive system just couldn't cope.

Go see your doctor, as christdefinesme said it could be lactose intolerance but before you go forking out for soy formula it's best to check with you're doctor.

My eldest son had major gas issues. We kept trying different formulas until we found the one that worked. For him it was Carnations Good Start. They have milk based or soy based. Its suppose to be made with proteins so it breaks down easier in the babies tummy. It worked for my son. The other kids didn't have any problems with regular similac (not the one of iron).

My 2month old has problems with gas. We have switched formula 4xs. Im using Enfamil Prosobee & some mylecon & 1/4 teaspoon of Mlyanta only at nite.
I see that some people have put rice cereal in the baby's bottle.

Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanx

I used Mylicon for about 3 months with my baby. I think it helped a little bit. Now I'm using Little Tummy's Gas Relief- it has the same ingredients, but it's much cheaper. I think my son actually developed more gas when I introduced rice cereal into his diet.

Gas drops or not... I think that just about all babies will have a problem with gas at some point. My son seems to be doing better with it now that he's a little older (4 1/2 months)

My son had a lot of gas problems and we also used the gas drops (little tummy's brand) and they worked great for us. Another thing we did was to try Good Start (formula by carnation - the one in the purple can) which was suppose to be easier for babies to digest. The Good Start did not have DHA or ARA in it (which our doctor said upset a lot of babies tummies.
Good Luck finding something to work for you :)

No rice cereal in the bottle. ;)

We used the mylicon drops, and also laid him over our lap tummy down and rubbed his back to relieve pressure.

It could also be the BOTTLE you are using that is increasing the gas, rather than the formula. If you are using a cheap bottle, go buy a more expensive brand such as Dr. Browns.

Yep yep yep.....didn't even think of that one! But Leanna's right....try a different brand to see if it helps before you go changing out more formulas....

thanx for all the suggestions.
We did try Avent bottles, but she seemed to get more of the formula on herself then in her. We are using Playtex liner bottles, but have never heard of Dr. Brown's type. She had some breast milk for a few weeks then we went to formula & have had a time with her developing so much gas.
Right now she has gone from sleeping a large part of the day to (if im lucky) to short naps & it is hard to get her to sleep a good bit of the time.
My hubby works a weekend shift & is taking classes so if it wouldn't be for family & friends don't know what we'd do.

My two younger ones, suffered from reflux....the flap on thier stomach wasn't full devlelped and they had constant heartburn, I gave them less to eat at a time the more they eat the more the stomach overflows, just had to feed them more often.

Did you try a different nipple for your advent bottles, what age range are the nipples your using, sounds like they might have a bigger hole for bigger kids, you might be able to get a way with getting a nipple with a smaller hole.

It gets easier with time. My baby didn't start sleeping through the night (well... nearly through the night) until he was 3 months old. Now he sleeps almost ten hours at a time-- I've had to actually wake him up for feedings and medicine for the past week. When he's on his usual schedule he wakes up at 7:00 AM has formula and then is awake for 2 to 2.5 hours, then he takes a 30 min nap and is ready to get up and play for another two hours. I read somewhere that this is pretty much the typical sleep-wake cycle for infants his age.

We use Avent bottles-- been using them since' he came home from the hospital (I did try to breastfeed, but it didn't work out). I read about the Dr. Brown's bottles in a magazine-- they rated somewhere around the top 5 in favorite baby products chosen by parents. I thought about giving them a try-- but we're already stocked up on Avent bottles. I figured we might as well keep using the same ones.

Been doing some reasearch, until our hard drive crashed and I was locked out bcause I forgot my password:duh:
I did buy some Dr Brown bottles & they are great. They use a straw mechanism to prevent air & the nipple is smaller then the Playtex.
We are thinking of trying other formula if the Dr says so next week.
Last nite ws tough on the both of us. She cried & fussed & squirmed for each feeding. There is a colic forum if anyone feels they need something like that it looks new. I felt blessed when I read one poor women's baby cried for 9 hours straight one day. Whew. God bless the parents I say:)
