I can think of nothing sadder than poor innocent babies having to go through the painful process of withdrawal due to junkie parents.

The Heroin epidemic in the US is absolutely appalling. More certainly needs to be done.
Opiates are dangerous drugs and the free availability of oxycontin and codeine-preparations should have been regulated more closely. Now the heroin market has been created and it is difficult to kill a hydra, no matter how many heads you lop off.

I can only shudder when I think of these poor newborns and the pain they experience.

Do you have methadone clinics in the US, they have been successful in Australia at reducing Hepatitis and Aids while also making it much easier for people to get off by gradually reducing the dosage.
