  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My sister and I ran into a young lady we had earlier met at the abortion clinic.

Late last year she chose to not abort her baby - we were able to speak to her and give her some literature before she entered the clinic. We saw her again after she left the clinic. We gave her some gifts and took her to a crisis pregnancy center.

We were so happy to see her the other day - she is about seven months along now and she is carrying a little boy. She hugged and thanked both of us.

Not to make anyone mad or anything, but this is a DEBATE forum. I mean I don't think theres any debate here, this was clearly a very pleasant encounter and I'm happy for the woman in question. Posting in a forum such as this leads the implication that this is a pro-life post showing how warm and fuzzy deciding against abortion can make one feel, yet it doesn't really serve much as fodder for debate.

I'm happy for the woman though, the choice whether or not to abort is usually very difficult and to see her happy and satisfied with the choice she made is good.

The debate is whether this was nice or not. Why are you wasting so many keystrokes on what you percieve to be a non-dabatable issue?

When my wife was in her early 20s, years before we met, she went through kind of a wild phase. She got pregnant twice. She had the first baby, and put it up for adoption. She terminated the second pregnancy. She's always said giving up the baby was one of the hardest things she had to do. The abortion, while not a pleasant procedure to have done, was much easier psychologically. For as long as I've known her, she's consistently said she still occaisionally feels bad about giving up the baby. And while she regrets being stupid enough to have gotten pregnant again, she's said she's never regretted the abortion. And in the 20 years I've known her, I've seen no reason to doubt her.

Boredom mostly, and I doubt you'll find many people contesting the fact that this was "nice".

Monica - I think that's wonderful. It's not often that we are rewarded with even information about our encounters, let alone a chance meeting where you can see the results! God bless you!

Oh no. Not at all. If the person in OP is happy with her decision, who am I to question it? My point is that one size doesn't fit all. Different people have different wants, needs, attitudes, and experiences. A woman should be free to make choices about her own uterus--even when there is another individual living there. She might make a bad choice, but having the state dictate to her is worse.

It was nice for you to see the woman again. Sometimes we wonder why we encounter the people we do and wonder if we make any impact. :)

The question remains though, how happy would this woman be if she had aborted the child? As this can't be determined, you can't know which was better. All in all, if she is happy with her decision, more power to her, although I hope she stays happy when the baby is there.

Because its a loaded topic. Disagreeing with it automatically puts someone at a dis-advantage because you can play the appeal to emotion card. Its a trap for you to attack someone with the "How could you say that making this woman happy was bad!? You horrible person!"

Save a life and you are responsible for that life. You going to help the woman pay the bills? Do some babysitting?

I ran into a young lady I had earlier met at an abortion clinic.

Late last year she chose to abort her baby.

I was so happy to see her the other day. She just got her degree as a social worker, and is working with victims of abuse. She is able to help so many because she was able to obtain her degree.

Or how 'bout this one...:

I ran into a young lady I had met at an abortion clinic.

Late last year she chose not to abort her baby after protesters convinced her not to.

She is, however, still addicted to crack. Her baby was born addicted to crack as well, and died a painful death a few months after being born.

Or maybe...

Several years ago, I attended the funeral of a young lady I had met at an abortion clinic.

Back then, she chose not to abort her baby after protesters convinced her not to, even though this went against all medical advice.

She died during childbirth. Her boyfriend refused to take custody of the child, who is now 14 and living as a prostitute on the streets after suffering abuse at the hands of the last in a long run of foster parents.

There are good stories and bad stories. Nobody can say for sure whether anyone is better off because they did or did not have an abortion.
