• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A friend sent this to me today and I think it is important for me to share it with you. Let me know what you think:

A black man was talking to a white man and said : I''m black. When I was born I was black. When I grew up I was black. When I'm sick I'm black. When I go in the sun I'm black. When I'm cold I'm black. When I die I'll still be black. But you, When you were born you were pink. When you grew up you were white. When your sick you're green. When you go in the sun you're red. When you're cold you're blue. When you die you'll be purple. And you have the nerve to call me colored. Pass this on and stop racism

While stopping racism is, of course, a noble goal the call to do so is often used by the unscrupulous to give special rights and privilages to one group or the other in order to buy votes and has the effect of increasing whatever racial tensions may exist. Merely assuming a person has a deficit in this area by calling for him or her to "fight racism" causes alienation. Respect and kindness do not arise from political speeches or can be imposed by political action but come from the heart.

Nicolas Davila on the general subject:

"The racist is annoyed because he secretly suspects that the races are equal. The anti-racist is annoyed because he secretly suspects that they are not."

"An individual declares himself a member of some group or other with the goal of demanding in its name what he is ashamed to claim in his own name."

Concerning the anecdote: Colored? Sounds like something from half a century ago.

“Discrimination is discrimination, no matter who the victim is, and it is always wrong. There are no ‘special rights’ in America, despite the attempts by many to divide blacks and the gay community with the argument that the latter are seeking some imaginary ‘special rights’ at the expense of blacks.”

Julian Bond – Chair of the NAACP

I've always seen racism being inspired by religion. Just take The Ku Klux Klan for example. The slaves were emancipated when Abraham Lincoln (an atheist) signed the Emancipation Proclamation. These parts in history have always made me proud to know that I am not inspired by someone elses opinions.

And yet there were Christians also pushing for slavery to end, the civil war wasn't started over slaves, that was just another issue brought up to tick off the south, and Benjamin, Franklin, another Atheist, owned slaves.

Atheist person, you have been influenced by other's opinions, just in the opposite direction.

When I first came across that I thought it was funny. However it didn't have the last line. But what I want to know is, how would that conversation stop racism.

Wouldn't that have the opposite affect and just cause arguments on who is right?
