Hi CF - I need some advice. I am a member of a small, but faithful Baptist Church in Alabama. We are Blessed with an abundance of children and are considering the AWANA program. Would everyone please give me your opinions of this program if you are familiar with it? We are weighing the pros and cons over other curriculums such as TeamKid, RA's and GA's etc.

Thank you and God Bless! :groupray:

Before the current budget crunch we have been in, we did TeamKid which I thought worked well with a smaller group. From what I have heard AWANA is better for a large group with a larger staff.

We were averaging around 10-15 kids on Wed nights and able to handle everything with 3 adults.

We are actually thinking about going back to using TeamKid material.

I'm the Sparks Secretary for my church's Awana ministry.

I grew up in Awana and loved it so when my church started the program 4 years ago, I jumped at the chance to get involved.

It is ideal for larger groups of kids (15+ for each age group) and the only drawbacks that I've seen is the cost of running it. The curriculum is expensive and there is no way to get a better deal. Depending on the number of kids you have, you could easily spend $500-$1000 per age group just buying the supplies for the clubbers and leaders.

That said, it is still a wonderful program and one I love being a part of.

We have been involved in AWANA for over 5 years now and my husband was until recently the AWANA commander at our Duty Station ( only stopped because we were moving with the military). We LOVE the AWANA program, our kids have learned so much and 2 have been saved through AWANA.

My friend is AWANA Commander at a small local church in our area. I had heard good things about the program, so when she asked me if I'd like to help out I jumped at the chance (my church has no weekday program). I have been helping with T&T for almost a year and really enjoy connecting with the kids and seeing them learn and grow, as they seem to absorb God's Word. However, as others here have said it does take alot of adults to make it happen. We have an average of 30 kids/week and have almost 15 adult workers.

I am the Children's Education Director at our church so needless to say, I'm also the AWANA Commander. AWANA Club is so worthwhile and an experience that children love and the leaders find they are blessed in so many ways!

If you want help, please contact me. God Bless you!

Sorry for coming in late.

My two daughters have been involved with AWANA since they were three, in Cubbies. Now my oldest is in her 2nd year of TnT, and my youngest is in her final Sparkie year. All through Sparks both girls have finished their books, reviews, and extra book (the leaders actually had to get them something else to finish the year). They retain all of their verses and understand their context. All that, and they have so much fun! My older girl has even said that, when she finishes TnT, she wants to be an assistant.
