  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'd say it's half and half.

Nature and Nurture.
I think it's more nuture, than nature.

Just like someone may be genetically predisposed to diabetes. But if they live a healthy life, eat right and keep a healthy weight, and never get diabetes then they've beaten nature. Just because you genetically carry it, doesn't mean it's going to happen. And in the opposite case, you may not carry any predisposition for anxiety problems, but because of a traumatic experience or the environment you were raised in, you now have anxiety issues.

well, ok here's what i think:

I think, if you have it genetically, that's half of the battle. the other half is deciding how you might use your environment. Drifting off to a more modern problem, Americans are becoming increasingly overweight. Most people say it's because they're offered all these foods that are very unhealthy for them. But they're also offered many excellent weight loss programs (not counting surgical). Most people who become overweight don't even have a genetic tie to obesity, so i can agree with you on the fact that it could most of the time be nurture that decides who you are.

though, now that I think about, nurture in this case is a psychological issue. You could decide to eat more unhealthy foods, or you decide to work it off. Which brings us back to the nature portion of the debate. This is where I'd say it was half and half. Most decisions you make are based on your own psychology, which happens to be nature. But then again, your psychological state is based largely, but not completely, on your environment. Seems like a full circle to me, bring nurture back to nature and so on.

that's what makes it half and half for me. Feel free to disagree.

For me to just "talk" to someone, I have to be ordered to, meaning I have no choice. I never really thought of it as a "disorder", just not that social. At least around strangers..

So do I as I am not used
To strangers unless I am with someone
Or less I am ordered to speak with them.
