  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't have a particular disorder--per se---but I do struggle with going out to meet people at singles groups or similar places. If I am introduced to someone--then-I am alot more comfortable. But to go to a social gathering where I don't know anyone is very difficult for me.
Yes--I agree with Keri who suggests a therapist--because that would possibly help you alot. I am biased-but I have been on the receiving end of therapy for more years than I have been on the giving end of it.
I do caution however--on the anxiolytics. Just be careful. There are some anti-anxiety medications that are very helpful & non-narcotic & non--addicting. I recommend if you try medicine--you try that route first. I myself have been on such medicine &--in combination with intensive 1 on 1 therapy--it has helped me alot--though as I pointed out above--I still struggle in certain situations. Otherwise--you may end up getting addicted to something that you can't come off without alot more help. Trust me--I am a substance abuse counselor. I have seen too many people get hooked on certain medications & it causes more problems than it solves.

I have Avoidant personality disorder and it's hard for me to make friends or even find guys online. I feel so alone in this world. I don't think anyone understands it hard to just go out there and talk to people.

I feel this way sometimes. Its hard to approach people when I feel alone. Its like I don't understand how to go out there and talk to people.

I hardly talk, most people know nothing about me.

thank you all for the advice.

What does your religion icon mean? I'm not familiar with that particular one. :) Learning about other religions is very interesting, and I hope that you know I'm asking out of sincere curiosity and not to make you feel uncomfortable.

Do you have any pets?

I know this seems off topic, but I'm trying to get you to talk a little more. :p

I feel much the same way. Before you explained it I thought your sign meant you were Wiccan or something.

I have one dog

I have a dog too. He's a Pomeranian and his name is Hallal (Hebrew for "to praise foolishly") Cross. I just call him Cross.

If I can be helpful in anyway to either of you in your journey to come closer to Christ, please feel free to PM me. I'll do my best to answer and if I don't have an answer, we can look for one together. :)

Love!

These threads interest me.

Every time I open one of these threads, my initial reaction is pretty cold. "This is stupid. Just get over it and start talking to people."

I have to sit back and realize that it isn't really that simple for a lot of people. I have to look beyond me and look at what other people struggle with. I am blessed to have good mental health, and I think I take that for granted at times. These threads make me realize there are people out there who are not as fortunate.

It is good for me to see these threads to try and understand those who truly struggle with these issues. I am learning to be more sensitive to these issues and not jump to conclusions about other people based on my own personal experiences.

I tend to be the quiet type, mostly due to the fact that I was so rejected when I was little among my peers. Now it's easier to be alone then it is to make friends. I'd go into a whole rant about my struggle to gain self confidence, but that would take too long XD

In short, I guess I could say im the epiphany of Envy.

Do you guys think a lot of these disorders are genetic in nature? Or do most of them stem from past experiences or trauma?

It seems that a lot of people who express they have these disorders speak of being picked on, or abused, or socially awkward in their youth.

So, I am just curious to see if you guys think these disorders are avoidable, or if they are simply genetic.

That's interesting because I was just reading about "hyper-sensitive" people. Some of it is genetic. Then the parents tend to show less positive reinforcement to that type of child, which is where experiences come in to play.

While I've never been officially diagnosed, I would say many of the symptoms apply to me. I was raised in an abusive household, but I honestly think I still would have had a lot of the same tendencies anyway. My personal opinion is that it's a combination of genetics and environment.

I remember peers being the most difficult people to talk to when I was younger.

I'm still kind of that way. These days, I can talk to people older and younger than me without too much trouble.

I'd say it's half and half.

For me to just start talking with people, I have to know that we share common interests, or at least that they are friendly. Otherwise, I keep to myself or with my close friends. I just want to live a peaceful life. In that sense, you might say I'm avoidant... but I don't have a disorder.

I'm sensitive in that I have a lot of empathy for people. When I see the way that some (most?) mistreat others, I'm not apt to want to befriend the jerks. It doesn't have to be directed at me, but I notice. As a result of my sensitivity, I'm often the one who stands up for those who get picked on or pushed around.

They don't call me the 'strong silent type' for nothing.
