  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've seen some nice ones for about $600. The one I had for my first marriage 36 years ago, cost about $200 then...would be worth about $3 to $4,000 these days. It had a real pidgeon blood ruby surrounded by 12 individually set little diamonds. In those days my (husband) had to put it on layby for about a month so he could afford it. $200 in those days was a lot of money. I guess it all depends on what you call an average price.....

I don't know what's average; in the Netherlands it isn't even that common to have an engagement ring I believe (I really wouldn't know - people aren't interested in other people's rings over here; I wouldn't know who has one and who hasn't).

I don't have an engagement ring.

The wedding rings my husband and I bought cost about 300 euros (for the pair) if I remember correctly, plain yellow golden wedding bands.

I'm not sure if you're going to get a fair representation of responses by going with this approach.

I'm pretty sure that those who spent in the upper-thousands/pounds/euros might be a little reluctant to proclaim such things for fear of being persecuted by haters. (And let's face it. It happens).

I'm not ashamed LOL I love my ring and some day, I'll pass it on for Justin to give to his fiance (only if he wants it).

My engagement ring was $5K, my wrap was 100 (we got it when a company went out of business, but it appraised for $3K), my band that I wear when I don't want to wear my expensive ring (i.e. vacation, etc) was $200 and so was Jesse's.

More like "only if she wants it". :D

Aren't most women turned off by the idea of their men giving them stuff that belonged to their moms?

Justin: Will you marry me, Fiancee?
Fiancee: Yes! Show me da ring!!!
Justin: Here it is. It was my MOMS!
Fiancee: ...... :|

LOL actually my family is stickler for something along these lines. I almost wish that Jesse would have done the same for me...or that my grandma would have passed her's along. LOL Jesse got me mine because it "looked" antique...

I see what you're saying, though. If she wants it, too. :D But if he did it like Jesse, she wouldn't see it until she asked anyway. Mine is very plain, though. It is just a solitaire.

Mine was close to $9000. His was around $200.

As far as the cost today, now is a horrible time to buy an engagement ring or any other jewelry being as precious metals are at or above all time highs.

As per the story of the $12,000 ring that went floating away, I was wondering what the average cost of an engagment ring is these days?

What did your love one spend on your engagement ring??? What do you spend on the ring for your partner?

-LeeLee.
Lauras engagement ring was $650 and her wedding band was about the same amount....~$1300 total.
She would have killed me if Id spent 12K on a ring regardless of how much money we had to spend.
Of course we got these before the metals went into record prices..theyd probably be twice as much now.

Personally I think 1 months salary is a good amount to spend tops if someone has that much to pay.
:)

edit...oh...for mine I insisted on a Titanium ring and we got a really nice one off ebay for $20 ;)
the same ring at the store we got lauras from was $200.
Titanium isnt precious in the least, just hard to work with, so they can be pretty cheap, but are pretty long lasting and a nice metal to look at. :)

My engagement ring is worth about $6000, but hubby only spent about $750. The diamond is from his grandmother and he had it set in a ring he had made for me. My wedding band that goes with the engagement ring was about $600. His wedding ring cost abou $90. I got him a tungsten ring so he wouldn't have to worry about scratching it up at work. It's been great.

I think we spent about $750 on Mrs. Homie's, about $250 on mine.

I love those commercials that say "2 months' salary." Is that before tax or after tax?
WOW! I can't imagine paying 2 months salary for a ring! Jesse didn't even spend one month on mine! :swoon:
