I'm still on high from the finale. It was everything I expected it to be and far more. The romance (ooo la la Katara and Aang ;p), the action, the betrayal, the mission, the lies Azula told (love that girl, though; i absolutely adore her). Pure genius.

Okay, now that I watched the episode I can rant.

WOW! That was freakin' awsome! Is it just me or does Azula play everyone like a piano? She tricks the Earth King, Long Feng, and Zuko all in one episode! I seriously think she'll just take the throne from her dad - she already controls the Earth Kingdom! Feel sorry for Tie Lee, she's gonna be stuck like that for a while.

What'll the Gaang do next? Every safe haven has been lost. Half their allies have been killed or captured. How can they mount an invasion without an army? Is the resisance army from Omashu still available? What about the water tribes?

Messed up thing is, I actually believed her. Still do.

Those last few scenes with the Gaang made me realize how young they were. I mean, take a good look at Katara in that last frame. Other times she seemed older than 14, but right then I saw how much of a kid she really is (Aang, Sokka, and Toph, too!). And in her face, there was so much emotion in it. Overwhelming, really.

And I feel sorry for the Zutarians. That blow had to hurt. But the Kataang made me squee! even harder than usual. Shipping love, always.

He betrayed you and you still like him? I can't beleive he just sided with Azula after everything he just went through. Has he no honor? No wait, he thinks he's getting it back, gag.

Iroh - rules. Simple and plain. He may have been captured but three cheers for The Dragon of the West!

Oh yeah, Toph can metal-bend. Awsome!

of course i still like him! you can see that he's having problems with his discussion and azula's a twisted jerk-face brat who is the spawn of her father's demented mind.

*cheers with him* GO IROH!!

Iroh pwns. End of discussion.

*laugh* *guffaw!*

Anyway...

I was interested in the issue with the guru. I had originally recognized the reference to "Avatar" as a Hindu reference, but I was surprised at how much they actually adhere to Hindu metaphysics.

I was also impressed (but not surprised) by the fact that a Wikipedia article was up the same day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra_(Avatar:_The_Last_Airbender)

Personally, I appreciate the way they focused more on practical concepts like "lieing" "fear" "hunger" etc rather than more spiritual elements (except of course for the Avatar state itself).

Still, I personally believe that the show is a great metaphor for life, but that the realities displayed in the show are not necessarily the same in our world. I would be interested to get people's thoughts on what they believe about "Chakra" and the virtues which the guru talked about.

Yet, even with all of the Hindu references, Aang's decision to save Kataara and delay the Avatar state was interesting. The result was more similar to something like a Christ figure, but it's more subtle. Essentially, Aang was willing to sacrifice his entire existence to save Katara. Yet, the cleansing power of the water from the Spirit Oasis was able to resurrect him from death. Now, Aang can go on to save the world. Did anyone else catch that? Thoughts?

Any way you want to look at it, this is some very well done writing, especially given the clever way they did fan-service to the Zutarans without betraying the story. Still, I am unsure about Zuko's final decision. I would be surprised if he does not have second thoughts after understanding how his sister is just (obviously) manipulating him.

PS - I have also been wondering for a long time why Earth benders couldn't bend Metal. From what I recall, in many early theories "Earth" and "Metal" were used to refer to a similar thing.

Alrighty, it’s time for my two cents on this mind-blowing season finale…*cracks knuckles* WARNING: may be extremely long. But I’d appreciate it if you’d read and respond. Nothing like a nice discussion about one of my favorite things in the world to get me all SQUEE-ful XDD.

Initial reaction? Shock. Despair. Disbelief. Amazement. O.O.

Now, looking back, it’s even more amazing than before. Very complicated though…I’m extremely impressed.

First off, there were only a few things I was completely and plainly happy about:
- Toph’s metalbending XD. That girl IS the greatest earthbender evAR. She’s too cool. Oh, and what I’ve heard about the technicalities of metalbending is that she learned how to bend the impurities in metal, probably those elements that are still simply earth. In Avatar-verse, I don’t believe earth and metal are interchangeable. Only those earthbenders skilled enough are able to try bending metal, and even then, they can’t completely manipulate the metal, only distort it. I got that from the fact that Toph was able to crumple the metal and toss it aside, not mold the metal into something else or melt it to the ground or something. Time and more eps will give us more info on that, so don’t take my word for it. Oh, and another thing. I also heard that metal from the Fire Nation is a type that has been processed in such a way as to remove all impurities, as in, I don’t think earthbenders could just bend the metal in Fire Nation ships, armor, etc into uselessness. Again, just my speculation.
- Sokka/Hakoda reunion. That was pure and simple JOY =D. Such a lovely and heartwarming moment. I love how Hakoda indirectly expressed his pride and faith in his warrior son. <3
- Toph and Iroh knowing each other. XDD I always thought they’d get along spectacularly. They seem like the type to be buddies, sitting around and chilling with a cup of tea, laughing about their companions and/or making conspiracies LOL.
- Iroh’s Dragon of the West demonstration. Nuff said <3<3

Now…part of this finale’s appeal was the fact that everything else was a LOT more complicated…

“The Guru” part of the finale was good, not amazing, but good. The mentoring was interesting, and it was cool to see Aang growing and facing doubts/fears/etc. I, however, thought it looked a little too easy to clear up each “chakra” (or however you spell it). I suppose that was for time issues XD; And there were bits of humor, which I enjoyed. I DID get mad at him, though, when he broke off the last chakra in concern for Katara >.< He was SO close. From there, I knew things weren’t going to go well…but it was expected, him making that decision. He’s a kid, and was obviously going to go after his friend. Immediate concern over the bigger picture. It’s such a heavy burden on such a young person, trying to put into perspective saving the world, gathering the energy of the cosmos yadda-yadda in comparison to saving the girl he loves. LOL See. A Zutarian can say it =P.

As for Katara, I LOL’ed when she walked into the tea shop. Fanfic much? XDD. Eep. But Zuko was scary and creepy being all smiley like that. Given, he’s VERY CUTE…but that was just…eep ._. Very out of character, even given the weird sickness…

Zutara scene. Oh my goodness. You can imagine how I reacted XDD. That tiny little moment…<3<3<3<3. The mini-bonding was soooo awesomeee. Zuko was being very sweet. If only they had more time…!!! First, it was cruel to give such a shippy trailer then have THAT (hardly anything) happen. Second, while I’m glad Katara didn’t heal Zuko’s scar, they could’ve at least talked more… And third, I really can’t help but think that if Aang and Iroh hadn’t arrived so early, Katara would’ve bonded more with Zuko, not just for the Zutara-ness (XP), but maybe Zuko wouldn’t have made is decision to fall to the dark side again so easily!!!

THAT’S what I’m most beside myself about. Zuko’s betrayal. In hindsight…I must admit, it was pretty genius, and good that they didn’t do the expected thing. Though I admit, I screamed in despair when he shot the fire at Aang >.>;;;; *sniffle*. Was all that for nothing?? The entire season of reformation, all Iroh’s been doing for him, all the changes he’s been going through, the “dream metamorphosis sickness” thingimabobber, the bonding with the little boy from “Zuko Alone” and Katara???? I can NOT believe he fell for Azula’s lies AGAIN!!! Whatever happened to “Azula always lies”???? How could he betray IROH, especially!!! I’ve stopped despairing over Zutara, because I have faith in my ship, and it’s always been strongest in fanon ^_^. But turning his back on Iroh…Zuko my dear…that was THE WORST. I wanted to cry there, and also back when he and Katara were fighting and she says, “I thought you changed!” and he replies, “I have changed!” ;_; That just broke my heart. Zuko, Zuko, Zuko…my dear little Zuzu. I know this just shows how much of a conflicted character he really is. He’s still VERY unsure. And this proves just how much he still wants his honor back. But that was crud, the thing when Azula said, “You can restore your own honor.” Zuko had been looking remorseful at what he did to Iroh, which gave me hope. But when that evil, insane royal sister of his said that, Zuko’s face turned into an unreadable one…and that scared me. I have NO clue what’s going to happen there. I don’t really believe in the Iroh-and-Zuko-have-a-plot theory. Zuko doesn’t seem like that type to me. But wow. Zuko, at the end, didn’t you notice it was AZULA sitting on that throne, not you??? ;_;!! LOlz…but on the other hand, that comment made me think, what if sis and bro went to betray their father now…and then Azula ended up stealing the throne…ehehe XD;

Backpedaling a little, back into the cave. Those were some SWEET battle sequences *_* Everyone has improved tremendously. Zuko…fire whips…*_*. I think Aang even scared Azula a little when (I think) he earthbended when she has shooting through the air on flames (which was cool in itself…anyway am I remembering the scene wrong? *shrug*) But wow. WOW. Aang…going into the Avatar state…and getting killed in it…speaks VOLUMES for the show O.O. Does that mean he gave up Katara to go into the Avatar State? I know when she used the oasis water on him, it looked like it healed his Avatar State, not his wound. So…he will still be able to go into the Avatar State? But he DID die…so does this mean the reincarnation cycle has really ended?? I know Aang’s alive…but what exactly has happened?? GYAA It just blows my mind @.@.

Some final notes. In this episode, they shipped and shot down BOTH Kataang AND Zutara, which I find highly amusing XDD. The Gaang (and world, I suppose) seems to be in its worst shape ever: Ba Sing Se has fallen, which pretty much means the Earth Kindgom has. Azula is in charge there. Zuko…well, you know *sob*. Iroh has been captured (let himself be captured..? o.o What does it mean…??) The Fire Nation will know about the solar eclipse. And this leaves…what, the Northern Water Tribe? Aang…is in a questionable state ._. Oh my goodness…the cliffhanger they left us on. And I STILL wanna know what happened to Jet and Suki! Need some definite answer here!!

I feel like I’ve been disciplined. I (and many other fans, I’m sure), eagerly awaited this finale squeeing and hoping to see what we’ve been wanting. But then, they just took this episode and twisted it like WOAH. It felt like Brian and Mike laughing in our faces saying, “This is OUR show, and we can do whatever we want!” And yet they know…they’ve got us wrapped around their fingers, begging for the new season LOL. *sigh* Cruel yet amazing.

Don’t know how I’m going to stand the wait until Season 3. Maybe with lots and lots of fanfics, fanart, and chocolate.

Miko, over and out.

Oh my, that WAS a lot! ^ Read it, though. I now am convinced that it will be Iroh, not Zuko (as I had though previously), who will be Aang's teacher. But I do think that Zuko will turn around and go the right direction in the next season sometime.

*nod* I agree. Iroh's been making bonds with the group already, and besides, he's more the teacher type, anways. He's truly and without a doubt a master firebender.

I...HOPE Zuko does ;_; I know some ppl think that him changing his path AGAIN would be wishy washy, but now that I've gotten a taste of what a kind person Zuko can be, how he SHOULD have been if it hadnt been for his father's terrible treatment of him, his mother been taken away, and his evil manipulative sister, I want to see Zuko make the right decision. I know he can.

I remember now, didn't Katara once get stuck with a bunch of earthbender prisoners who couldn't escape because they were confined in a metal prison?

I can totally see Azula deciding that dad is no longer needed, and with Zuko wrapped around her thumb she'll convince him too. I scare myself sometimes. As much as I hate her, Azula is one of the coolest characters I've ever seen. Only Sokka, Suki, Toph, and Iroh keep me from going to the dark side.

Speaking of Suki, if she died I am going to challenge the creator to the Fire Death Match Thing that Zuko had with his dad. I cannot believe they just left us hanging like that!
