So, first of all - does anyone know this band?
I had this kind of strange experience today when I was looking through CD's in the Christian record store in town. Since I'm just starting to listen to contemporary, I don't know a lot of Christian bands or artists at all. So, when I'm at the record store, I usually look at compilations first, just to see if any of them include a few songs I know from before. If they do, I have this strange idea that they probably contain lots of other songs I will like, too.
Today, the first CD I picked up was "Wow hits". I was reading through artists and song titles, and didn't find much I knew from before. But suddenly I noticed the band name - "Avalon". When I read that, I got this weird feeling that "I have to check that band out, they must be amazing". Since I didn't even know that a band with this name existed at all, don't ask me where that feeling came from. But, there was an Avalon CD on the shelf, too, and I made a mental note to go and listen to that one some day soon. (I couldn't do it today, since I was at the record store with someone else, and we didn't plan to spend hours there
).
Anyway, I bought "CCM Top 100 - vol.1" today, and that compilation had an Avalon song, too. (If you want to know which one, it is "Testify to love"). I'm just listening to that album when I write this, and Avalon's song WAS really just as amazing as I expected when I read the group name.
It seems I might have my first favorite Christian group, but of course I can't say for sure until after I've heard more of their material. It's just strange that I got this idea to check that band out just from reading their name on a compilation CD.
And by the way - I noticed that the song on the CCM compilation is from around 1996 or something. I almost panicked...maybe I got interested in a band that don't even exist anymore...? So - do you anything about Avalon at all? And do they still exist?
