• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I saw the last bit of NBC news last night and heard them mention something about autism. Well, I came onto their website and sure enough! There are PILES of sites about autism! Just click here. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6844737/

Hope you find it useful! I know I do! ;)

Thanks, I'll check it out. :)

I like that awareness of autism and aspergers is increasing, but whenever words like "epidemic" are flung around, I get nervous and a little snarky. Whatever progress has been made to keep the temperature down around acceptance of autism/aspergers goes down the toilet, because epidemic=disease, and thus needs a cure. My kids don't need a cure, they just need help and coaching to be the most solid, productive kids they can be in society, for their and society's mutual benefit. Whatever else of benefit is in the article can be lost because of the sensational "hidden epidemic" yuck. Again, just my opinion. I can get on a soapbox about this stuff.

I know what you mean. I hate all those "Cure Autism" websites that speak of autism as if it were a mental illness.

There is an extremely good chance the Einstein was autistic. Where would science we be if they cured him.

I agree with you, actually. I only copied the title of the article. :sorry: But I don't think that there is a "cure" for autism either. My little guy is not on any meds and whatever progress he has made is because...like has been mentioned...he's been coached. He gets one on one therapies at school and lots of help from us parents here at home. I just thought that these links would help other parents (like myself) out. ;) Your opinion is fine! I have nothing against that.

Thanks. I knew you were just quoting the article. And even if you weren't, sheesh, we're not opponents in this thing; as parents of autistic kids, and even as people with autism or aspergers (I am one), we need to be together with as much humor and love for one another as possible  . So let's all just put it out there and speak the truth in love to one another and bear with one another (especially in this forum, where we all love the Lord!), and have tough toes :D . I think you all are great!
