Some pics of the Aurora Borealis which where taken right up the top of Norway at a place called Lofoten. I didn't take them, but aren't they amazing!

We lived many years in Alaska and often saw the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) dancing across the skies. They are especially visible from towns nearer to Fairbanks than Anchorage although a few times we saw them in the Anchorage area or the Matanuska Valley.

So you lived in Alaska? it must have been impressive to see the Aurora Borealis; which can also be seen in northern Canada.

I guess being so far north, during the summer it must affect the body clock somewhat, when there is so much daylight.

Yes, 34 years but mostly in Anchorage and the Matanuska Valley where there isn't nearly as much daylight as Fairbanks summers or further North. Also not as much darkness in the winter. Alaska is so vast with different climates and different daylight hours. Cf. parts of Northern and Western Canada.

I think the area was the scene of a lot of action in World War Two.

There were the convoys to nearby Narvik, etc.

That would have been so incredible to have seen the Northern Lights up there in Alaska jannikitty. Wish I could see that, you are so blessed.

That's right faroukfarouk, the convoys used to pass by here on their way to Russia during World War 2. Would of been very cold.

Well, my father came from Poland and my mother came from Holland so that's quite close. I suppose you could say we were nearly vikings.

Many times coming up the Alaskan highway. Even stayed in Whitehorse once waiting on repairs for close to a week.

Anyway, I think there is more of the Yukon River in Alaska than there is in Yukon...
