  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Haha! :D

Well, my denomination requires that candidates for ministry take at least two years each of Greek and Hebrew (up through a hermeneutics class), so I've formally studied both. They're just rather rusty, is all -- can muddle my way through with a lexicon, but sitting down with just the original text is fairly questionable. I figure this will help me remember all those things I've forgotten, and maybe gain more facility with the languages than I had before.

(I also ordered the OT in Hebrew.)
Was it an interlinear you ordered, Mac?

I've got one and it does help a bit. I know easy words like "olam" and "bereshit", etc. and some grammar like "aynu" being "my" but that's mainly from songs! LOL!

No, it's an audio Bible.

I have the Bible in Greek and Hebrew already, having studied the languages and learned to translate. I'm not good at translating, but technically I can muddle my way through.

The idea with the audio is that I can play it in my car. Hopefully, hearing familiar passages will brush up my vocabulary, which is pretty rusty right now, and also polish my pronunciation, which is weak.

Interlinear Bibles can be helpful, but it's tough because the words and phrasing often don't match up in a way that allows for that to be done clearly. On the other hand, it's useful for pinpointing particular words and identifying what's used in a particular passage. Something like that can make it possible to use commentaries which refer to the original language, even if you don't "know" it.
