Auctioning Off Your Virginity

I saw this on the Tyra Banks show today and found it interesting to say the least. Some 22 year old is auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder. Apparently some men have bid as high as $1.5 million! I mean, is a woman's virginity THAT valuable to some???

What do y'all think about it? I think it's a bit excessive, but at the same time I don't see the big deal. I guess what I fail to see is how would a man be willing to pay that much for a virgin? I don't get the novelty of it.

My understanding was that "lady" in question worked in a brothel somewhere in the US where that was legal, and that this was a publicity stunt.

If I could get over her having sex before marriage (and I am absolutely 100% sure I could do that), then I am completely sure I could get over her doing this when we agreed that she should because its silly to refuse something like that...

That's not what I said. I would not marry a girl who auctioned off her virginity or otherwise prostituted herself. Nor would I put the "indecent proposal" thing in the same category as marrying somebody who <staff edit> up and then repented (you said that if you could get over one, you could get over the other).

Would I prefer a virgin? Absolutely. Do I think it is likely that I will find a woman who has saved herself for me, as I am saving myself for her? Unfortunately, no.

Not something I would personally do, but if a woman [or man] who is of age wants to, I'm not going to get all worked up about it. The fact that someone is willing to pay $1.5M for someone else's virginity says more about the buyer than the seller, IMO.

To paraphrase Stephen Horseley, if we're all willing to sell our minds and thoughts to the highest bidder, I don't see how anyone can say anything against someone choosing to sell their body instead.

The biggest problem I have with this is the suggestion that she will be exploited by the men paying her. I don't like what she's doing, because it is prostiution, but she does so willingly, and is not the innocent victim that I am sure the media will make her out to be.
