The person in question has their mind made up. He/she is asking for the opinion of those who also have their mind made up. Against such we do not need to defend. We defend from within and instruct from without.

The author says the practice is "dubious." We could show him all the scripture we use and it would do no good. He argued with a priest. He has not shown humility. Leave him alone. He's looking for a fight.

Peace.

Well, we have our minds made up, too! :>)

I'm too new around here to "know the ropes." Shouldn't that poster have placed his enquiry on Orthodox and Catholic boards, if he truly wished to understand why we honor the saints in the manner that we do?

From brash and aching experience, I don't recommend anybody tackling this one, at least over on that board. There certainly are good links that I could post, were I allowed to do so.

I sure wonder why the poster went into an Orthodox church. His unashamed admittance to disrespectful behaviour indicates that he was not there to learn.

In all fairness, I do understand his hesitancy about the Royal Martyrs. Even after reading a fair amount, I still find the justifications for their glorification only marginal. [But it's a "done deal", and I don't fuss about it -- and I certainly would venerate any icon that was in my path.]
