The national news media have covered the recall election and the campaigning in California right along, however.

Yes, but that doesn't mean that everything that happened in connection with the campaigning is national news.

In theory, that might be true. In reality, no.

The media had covered this campaign pretty strongly right up to election day, and that meant following the only man given any chance of replacing Newsom. Yes, Elder was much in the news...except that this egg-throwing incident didn't fit the preferred narrative. The last thing that the media wanted was for Elder to be seen as a sympathetic figure.

The question is why does the national media not consider this to be newsworthy when they cover similar incidents involving other political figures in a similar situation and often do it to excess?

If they were in the habit of covering no disruptions of speeches made by important political figures, you might have a point.

It was reported on. I listed links in my post. There were many more I could have listed. Local and state news carried it and some national news.

The person who threw the egg needs to be charged and held accountable. It was a stupid thing to do.

I'm in Los Angeles, so I'm close to where it happened, but I saw it covered on the local news on at least two network stations the same day it happened.

Had it been an attempted assassination but the intended victim managed to survive, would the same yawning reaction be appropriate?

Yes, I understand that the egg-thrower missed, but on the other hand, she was not the only disrupter there and that action was not all that was used to disrupt the event that day in California.

The media most likely chose to focus on the egg-throwing and sidestep the rest of what happened because people who are encouraged by attacks upon democracy would think it a big joke. Eggs are funny. There was also an incident in Detroit the other day in which a candidate for governor, a black man, tried to hold his announcement of candidacy in a park only to be prevented from speaking by rioters representing a local BLM affiliate. By and large the media either didn't report it or did report it without making much, if any, mention of the fact that it had to be moved to another location after chaos ensued at the first location as the candidate attempted to be heard.
