  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Attack of the Killer Prawns!

Forget about dingos, snakes, stingers, cone fish, goannas, red back spiders, cassowaries, buffalo, wild camels, sharks, crocodiles and octopuses with blue rings; Australia now has a new deadly menace straight out of your worst nightmare.

It’s a prawn, but not just any prawn – a KILLER PRAWN.

Young Sam Kanizay went swimming at a Victorian beach last Sunday when, in a crazed piranha like attack, he was swarmed on by thousands of lysianassid amphipods, a tiny prawn like monster described by a marine biologist as a “scavenging sea creature”. Sam emerged from the water with blood streaming from his lower limbs and came this close to losing his feet (probably). Sam was rushed to hospital where he was treated with Emergency Band Aids.

Marine Biologist Genefor Walker-Smith said not to worry – they only attack if you’re standing still.

This is one prawn (shrimp) that throws you on the barbie.

Pedantic mode: Activate!

Yes, but... prawns are not amphipods. They're decapods. Amphipods are like roly-polys. So it's more like attack of the killer roly-polys. (I'm not sure you have them in Oz, though)

I am practicing to be a tabloid journalist so I have adopted a personal motto:
'Never ruin a good story with the truth.'

Besides 'Killer Roly-Poly' lacks a certain je ne sais qua.

Between you and Mr GardenPot up there, I'm starting to feel like the entertainment at the Annual Pedantics' Picnic.

Fred Saberhagen wrote a whole series about Berserkers. Killer machines from some ancient war that seek to eradicate all life. In one short remnant from a small force attacks a marine research area on a water planet. The small berserkers are unstoppable. They hit a shark section, teh sharks swallow them and they cut their way out of the sharks bellies.

That is until they reach the shrimp pen and the shrimp tear them apart.

A salutary warning Keith.

As I've always said and will continue to say until the day I die:

Never turn your back on a shrimp

Hello Rubik
I just counted - you missed three.

BTW: Off Topic but- I like your Old English version of the Lord's Prayer. I'm guessing around 9th century Mercian dialect but I'm willing to be corrected? Your version has a lot of words which approximate their Modern English equivalents.

And then people complain that Finland is "too cold"...

Well, there is ZERO life in this picture, nothing to attack, bite, harass, sting, maul or poison you! Paradise, folks, paradise!

Don't give me any of your Finnish paradise baloney.

I can see at least 23 Yeti lurking in this picture. Then there are the deadly mosquitos and the rampant reindeer. If I manage to get past all that then I'm left with the risk of freezing to death or being mauled lifeless by a squirrel.

Ohhh cheese!!!! Caught again. Is that twice a year or every two years or half a picnic? - I can never remember.

On the subject of getting caught - its Pedants (noun) not Pedantics (verb with incorrect pluralisation). I set a little trap for Tanj and you fell in instead.

Now you can feel stupid - just like me. ^_^

I am a Christian, sir. I practice mercy. I was not going to be so harsh as to correct you twice in one post so I played along with your spelling.

Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV,
Finland, Finland, Finland.
It's the country for me.

Verse : You're so near to Russia.
So far from Japan,
Quite a long way from Cairo,
Lots of miles from Vietnam.

Chorus : Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I want to be,
Eating breakfast or dinner,
Or snack lunch in the Hall,
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Verse: You're so sadly neglected,
And often ignored.
A poor second to Belgium,
When going abroad.

Chorus : Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I quite want to be,
Your mountains so lofty,
Your treetops so tall,
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Repeat : Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I quite want to be,
Your treetops so tall,
Finland, Finland, Finland.
Finland has it all.

Fade : Finland has it all ...
