The Attack of the Killer Prawns!
Forget about dingos, snakes, stingers, cone fish, goannas, red back spiders, cassowaries, buffalo, wild camels, sharks, crocodiles and octopuses with blue rings; Australia now has a new deadly menace straight out of your worst nightmare.
It’s a prawn, but not just any prawn – a KILLER PRAWN.
Young Sam Kanizay went swimming at a Victorian beach last Sunday when, in a crazed piranha like attack, he was swarmed on by thousands of lysianassid amphipods, a tiny prawn like monster described by a marine biologist as a “scavenging sea creature”. Sam emerged from the water with blood streaming from his lower limbs and came this close to losing his feet (probably). Sam was rushed to hospital where he was treated with Emergency Band Aids.
Marine Biologist Genefor Walker-Smith said not to worry – they only attack if you’re standing still.
This is one prawn (shrimp) that throws you on the barbie.

'Sea bug' creatures behind bloody attack on Melbourne teen's legs identified as amphipods
