  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you all go over there to pile on the Christians, let me give you some good advice.

First of all, evolution is not anti-christian nor is it anti-religion.

Ofcourse, you have been said this so much already that I wonder if you talked to a doctor about loss of memory lately... You should, you know. I'm concerned about your health. (although, ofcourse, it's also possible that you're only "forgetting" it because it suits your needs, and we all know that this isn't an honest thing.)

The Bible is sharper than a two-edged sword, and in the hands of those who know how to use it --- well --- I'll just say this.

Please don't come back here bleeding all over us.

Using the Bible in a scientific discussion is like using a Bible in a swordfight:

the one wielding it gets cut up, and it's shown here every day.

<snip Biblequotes - be novel, AV, use the Silmarillion next time or something...>

My city of Hattiesburg has a local forum which I had lurked in for quite some time. I noticed though the other day a thread about Evolution and it not being taught much in Mississippi....................

you should try talking to these people in person. you will be able to cover a lot more. i've recently been meeting up with creationists, and the discussions are so much more productive. i'm able to cover more in just a couple hours of talking face to face than i'm able to in months of email exchanges and debating on forums.

I had thought about that - in fact I would love to do a public formal debate or discussion about it because I'm surprised at how much misinformation is out there.

Well, at least you're lucky enough to be nearby your Debate Opponents. I'd like to live near someone who'll put up an interesting fight. Unforunately, I'd have a hard time. No one around here likes to discuss their Point of views. Forget misinformation, they won't even talk to you.

Of course, that's only If you can get them you talk.

Valhorn, I'm going to post a link to JREF though I'm not sure if any will join or when. In the future could you post a hotlink or the direct link instead of a tinyurl.com link. I was at work last night and would have signed up and crossposted the link sooner if it was a direct link.

Getting ready to wade into the trenches now...

Good luck. I tried to change it to the actual URL and it will not post in ChristianForums correctly for some reason.

If anyone is interested, the thread has degenerated to a fundamentalist singing Bible tunes instead of wishing to discuss the actual evidence or explain why some Christians accept Evolution.
I know, it's pretty hilarious. And still no one addressed my earlier post about evolution being an applied science.

Truly the failure of creationists is immense.

And somewhat sad as well. I think I'm at a negative reputation there now. And yet here I'm at 39,000 or something.

Funny that :)

Yeah, I notice on that board it seems a lot more based on who can get popular support than anything to do with content--as especially evidenced by the "thank you" and "no thank you" post feature.

And they still can't address what I brought up... Of course, like creationists in general, the conversation has drifted to a wholly religious discussion. *shrug* Oh well.

Pete, you mentioned JREF... have you ever gone to one of the Amazing Meetings? I've always wanted to go and am trying to make plans for next year.

That was me. I attended TAM through TAM3. It really was sad to see the Stardust imploded. If you can go next summer, do so. It truly is an Amaz!ng experience, but make sure and log in to the forum and get to know people there since you'll have a ready made friend base before you step foot in Vegas.

It's just so depressing when ignorance outnumbers you.

Hi VH! I just thanked you for (surprising) reps.

Prior to coming here I was in Religion at MySpace. Now that was interesting! In fact from my experiences with all the atheists (and the odd agnostic) there I could easily use your quote above from my perspective: "It's just so depressing when ignorance outnumbers you." *grin*

I didn't ever calculate the numbers but it could easily have been 20 to 1, i.e., 20 atheists (all 'for' evolution obviously) against every 1 Christian (there were only about 3 of us). But I loved it actually! I never debate but I do post to some and to my great surprise I was actually respected by the guys and gals at MySpace by the time I left! *surprises are good!*

Well that was all a bit of a 'rave on' I guess, and it's now early Monday morning here in Aussie-land, so I must press on...

All the best to you!

- Bondman (ministering the Good News of the Gospel)
