The satanic anthem? How appropriate...
"For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels

The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

Yes, it was my way"

I did it my way!

Song is awesome.

Satan did it his way too. I read about a man today who is dying of a terminal disease and his final wish was to be carted over to a casino to gamble and taste their beer one last time. Can you imagine? God brought him to a place of total helplessness and he still wants to wallow in his sin. I am praying for his salvation but this is a good illustration of our depravity.

Proverbs 29:1

He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy

Oh , come on!

It's possible to have a beer and a flutter without hurting anyone. Why would you deny a dying person a little harmless pleasure at the end of the day?

Honestly - sometimes Christians can be so judgemental. :(

How judgmental of you to say so.

If you've seen Wicked, then you know the song Defying Gravity. It's Elphaba's big number that closes the 1st act. The lyrics aren't explicitly anti-religious. But it is an anthem to self-reliance and challenging authority. If you take the wizard (or gravity) as metaphors for any kind of god, then the message is clear:

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately:
"Everyone deserves the chance to fly!"
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who'd ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I am
Defying gravity
I'm flying high
Defying gravity
And soon I'll match them in renown!
And nobody in all of Oz.
No Wizard that there is or was,
Is ever gonna bring me... down!
Ahhhh!

It's the best song in the show, and it made Idina Menzel's career. And you have to be a really good singer who can belt it out. She nails that high E flat-F run at the end.
