  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

One of my very close friends is an atheist, and he is an absolutely wonderful person. I don't agree with him on matters of faith, but that doesn't mean I have to only focus on that. As Christians I think we should love everyone, no matter what they are, and pray that those who don't believe will find God.

What do you guys think about atheists? Are they bad people, good people? Just your general thoughts really.

to me atheists are people with beliefs, and very thought out and even grounded reasons why they believe, just as theists do. some live good lives, some live bad lives, just like believers. they are people. many are good, and many are bad, just as many believers are good and many believers are bad.

I dont really like Atheism, as the people i know who don't believe in god try to prove me wrong about everything :(, but i don't see whats wrong in believing in something that makes me happy even if its not 'scientifically' possible

the problem that me as an agnostic have with even this, is not so much that you find happiness or anything that isn't scientifically proven but its that, on us non-believers, it gets pushed on us.

as far as i'm concerned if you find happiness in things that aren't proven scientifically, i truly hope it blesses your life for the good and that you life a life fulfilled with it. but the minute you push your ideals, your theology on me, then iow, the gloves come off and the debates will start. just because, i find it very prideful and selfish to push one's own personal fulfillment as divine truth or some kind of truth that the world needs to adhere too.

and on another note, i think atheists do get down trodden a lot, at least in our country. this isn't me saying that believers don't get down trodden. i know better than that, but atheists do get put down a lot, and the word "atheist" seems to be such an ugly word when it shouldn't be. here's an example in the area i live:

i live in a small, blue collar community that is filled with church after church. on april 1st, i'll never forget the sign i saw on the church sign. april 1st as we all know it to be april fool's day, and the sign said, atheist's day. this kind of mentality against a decent size of our population would bring a lot of fury against the community that is persecuting such a group.

please don't take this as me directing this to you specific. i don't know you or how you deal with the atheists you know. and if they constantly try to prove you wrong or make fun of you, they are, at least imho, despicable. but i would just advise to find a little grace. in our country, it seems the overall majority find it strange that one can't believe in mythological tales of some god. i'll never forget one conversation i had with someone i know. we got talking about our religious views, and i started with bringing up how i question a lot even the existence of a god, and this person's first response was, "don't tell me your an atheist". truth be told, i'm not atheist, i'm agnostic, but i wish i would have responded, "what if i am?" its that kind of overall attitude that i think gives birth to many negative reactions that we see from atheists. then of course there are just idiotic people on both side of the camps.

:)

Hmm, the bible says we have all fallen short and that none of us are good people.

Even our righteous deeds are as filthy rags to God...

Outside of Christ, none of us are justified nor righteous.. therefore it is impossible for anyone without Christ to be justified or be righteous.

Someone can be a "good person" by secular standards, but let's be honest here, being a good person doesn't mean anything. You can be the nicest person in the world, but if you're living your own life, your own agenda, your own belief and not accepting Christ as the way, the truth and the life, then Scripturally you are NOT safe from the judgment of your sin.

Regards,
Zak

hence the very reason why i have great respect for atheism. the standard to hold themselves to is how they live their life for themselves and how they treat others as compared to, judging one's own "righteousness" based upon mental projections of a 2nd century Jew.
