I was recently browsing Reddit and I found a post asking teachers about trends in the youth of today. A majority of the teachers said that youth are becoming nicer and more open to learning. It makes me wonder if the this trend is tied in anyway to the fact that more and more people are becoming atheist. Also, America was the first real country with the freedom of religion and a truly secular society. It was when America was founded that technology and the sciences began to skyrocket. I just want to get someone's thoughts on this idea.

As I understand it, the U.S.'s meteoric rise was fueled by their sense of manifest destiny around the turn of the 19th century which also coincided with Europe's (and by extension, 'the west's') industrial revolution but there's no indication that secularism was a significant factor.

As for the claim that 'youth are becoming nicer and more open to learning', I'm not a teacher so I can't really comment. I suspect that the youth in deprived areas are still as prone to 'anti-social' behaviour as their forebears but certainly, the majority of today's youth SEEM to be less 'inhibited', whether that's a good thing or not, time can only tell.
