I voted 20....I had moved out on my own at 19, failed miserably, wrecked my car, was too proud to tell my parents so I moved in with my boyfriend of two months which was a disaster!

We actually got engaged, then he went all crazy on me and we broke up.

And then I went crawling back to Mama and Daddy and started driving the old Mercury Sable Wagon (aka the MollyMobile)

lol, to me growing up was learning humility, I thought I could tackle the world just because it was me and I'm awesome.

So, by 20 I had started waiting tables again, cleared all of my debt up and learned so many good lessons the hard way.

Now I have an awesome job, boss, car and I'm back in school next semester.

Maybe I should have said 22??

at what age do you feel you made the transition from boy/girl to man/woman? For me? It was probably 19 or so.... when I finnally relized that life is hard and I gotta be strong.
I voted for 14 because that was the youngest you listed.

I honestly think I was closer to 7 than to 14. I had a sister who was deathly ill, a grandmother who almost died from a serious illness, and a mother who underwent major surgery all around that time period. I was listening for oxygen tank alarms, ragged breathing, and such things to help exhausted "grown ups."

I understood that life can be difficult, and that to get through life we need our loved ones.

I also understood that money doesn't magically appear, and that hard work is part of life.

Even though I function more independantly now than I do then, I'd have to say it started probably when it was about 16, mostly because I had my own job, had my own car, paid bills (even though it was to the parents) and pretty much acted responsibly. The only reason why I would probably think I wasn't mature then is because my mother was quite controlling so it never really felt like I had decisions to make until around 20-21. So I'm kind of split between the two, but I voted for 16 because that's when I feel the transition had marginally been started or taken effect.
